Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country's second-largest car maker, has called for a media buying and planning pitch as its South Korean parent, Hyundai Motor Company, has invited a $ 1 billion media pitch across the 170 countries, where it has a presence.
Leading media agencies from the Interpublic, Publicis Groupe and Omnicom groups are pitching for the account, which has an annual advertising spend of Rs 100 crore.
Presently, ZenithOptimedia is handling HMIL's media buying business in India since mid-2006. Prior to ZenithOptimedia, Cheil Communications used to handle the account from May 2005. Prior to that Madison Media was handling the account.
"Currently, we do not have an official comment on the Hyundai global media review. We are waiting to hear from our global office, but, in India we have submitted our presentation." said Navin Khemka, senior vice-president, ZenithOptimedia.
"The decision to call for a pitch came from Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) headquartered in Korea. The global pitch is to consolidate Hyundai and Kia brands. In all probability, Zenith may continue to be on board," a Hyundai spokesperson said.
The account review is being managed by Innocean, the in-house marketing services department at Hyundai Kia, South Korea. The automaker plans to put the new agencies in place by January 2010.
