NEW DELHI: Star Plus' reality TV show Sach Ka Saamna may have gone done well with the TV audiences, but its controversial content has not escaped the notice of the politicians.

Following the furore in Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Parliament, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry today issued a show cause notice to Star Plus seeking explanation as to why the series Sach Ka Saamna should not be taken off air.

The channel has been asked to respond by 4 pm on 27 July, ministry sources tell Indiantelevision.com.

Earlier, during the day, the Government assured members of the Rajya Sabha that it would have no objection to any discussion on the growing vulgarity in reality shows on television.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office Prithiviraj Chavan said there would be no hurdle from the government in case the Chair gives permission for such a discussion.

Deputy Chairperson K Rehman Khan said he will have no objection to allowing a discussion if a proper notice was given.

The issue was raised by Samajwadi Party member Kamal Akhtar when he said the reality shows like Sach ka Saamna were resorting to vulgarity and were becoming a source of embarrassment to family audiences.

Akhtar cited the example of a woman who was asked by the anchor of the show in the presence of her husband whether she would have physical contact with another person. Though she said no, the polygraph test said the answer was wrong, Akhtar said asking what impression would be created on the husband.

Akhtar said there should be some kind of censorship on reality shows before they are allowed to be telecast.

Bharatiya Janata Party member SS Ahluwalia said there should be debate before chaos prevails in society and the situation gets out of control.
