MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) board met for the first time at the new ICC Headquarters in Dubai on 10 and 11 February, 2010. The results of that meeting include:

Promotion and context of international cricket: The ICC board has agreed to conduct urgent product research and analysis as a part of the process which is looking at providing greater context to Test, ODI and Twenty20 International cricket outside the major ICC events.

This research will assist the working party, established by the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee and endorsed by the Board, which comprises David Collier (England and Wales Cricket Board), Nishantha Ranatunga (Sri Lanka Cricket), N Srinivasan (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and James Sutherland (Cricket Australia) with David Richardson (ICC General Manager – Cricket).

Integral to the work will be a competitive analysis of other sports and entertainment products as well as further consumer research into product development – in particular day/night Test cricket.

Host interest sought for ICC Champions Trophy 2013: The ICC will invite expressions of interest in hosting the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled for May/June 2013. The Board reiterated that this must be a compact competition. The ICC Executive will now approach Members to establish expressions of interest with the desire to complete the process by June 2010.

ICC events: After the success of the ICC World Twenty20 in England and the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa in 2009, the Board was encouraged to receive positive progress reports on the ICC World Twenty20 2010 to be held in the West Indies from 30 April to 16 May and the success of the ongoing ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates. The Board also received extremely positive reports on the progress and planning for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 – the ICC flagship event.

ICC Headquarters: The board considered the option of re-locating to Lord’s but felt it important to continue its comprehensive and ongoing due diligence before reaching any decisions.
