MUMBAI: In what can be termed as a further dampener to the Subhash Chandra –owned Indian Cricket League (ICL), the Delhi High Court has stopped them from filing a suit against the Indian cricket board in the UK courts.
ICL, which was launched under Essel Sports, had sent legal notice last month to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) threatening to file a suit in the High Court of England & Wales in London.
ICL was seeking various reliefs and damages against the BCCI, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council for not recognising it.
However, BCCI filed an anti-suit injunction against Essel Sports Pvt. Ltd. in the Delhi High Court. BCCI said in a release saying that the Delhi High Court today passed an order “restraining Essel Sports (ICL) from filing a suit in the Courts of the UK against the BCCI."
Essel Sports had said in the notice that if they did not receive a full and satisfactory substantive response from the BCCI by 7 December, they would file proceedings in the English Court.
