IDF Exclusive : 2 Wires for Airtel DTH HD DVR - Can splitter be used instead?

Hello

I have Airtel DTH SD connection. I was interested in upgrading it to HD DVR. I checked their website and followed the instructions. I charged my account for Rs.4,990/= and informed the CC to have the new STB installed at my place.

The Airtel engineers who came to my place said that there were two wires required for HD DVR and I needed to get an electrician to fix this because I have internal wiring at my house.

Is it possible to use a splitter instead of pulling an extra cable all the way from the dish to the STB? Has anyone here done that for Airtel DTH HD DVR?

Also, my uncle who was staying at my place before me used a Tata Sky DVR connection. But he used just 1 wire (not sure if he had a splitter). Is the 2 wires applicable only for Airtel DTH?

Looking forward to your responses.

Thanks
Vijay

2 wires are provided so that one can record one programme whilst watching other programme or record two programmes like that. Using splitters will not give the required result and also doubtful if all channels can be received in full strength. DVR's need two wires direct from LNB to the STB to get the full function,,,!!

@nairrk, thanks for the response. I will check with my landlord regarding the feasibility of having an additional wire from the terrace to my house.

Hello Sir,

Yes you can use 2 way splitter to connect your DVR to the dish antenna, instead of using 2 cable from the dish.

Actually TATASKY already providing the splitter to their customers instead of 2-way LNB.

what i think that the two cable is for two polarisations, because when we are watching H polarisation , it is unable to record the V polarisation with a single cable, inorder to record the other polarisation, it requires two wire and dual out lnbf
