New Delhi: It's still not a smooth road ahead for the Indian Premier League. Just when it seemed that the final security hurdles for the tournament were cleared, several states now seem to be throwing a spanner in the works. Many of them have now asked asked the Ministry of Home Affairs for the Centre's help in providing security for the games.

Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Delhi, in their replies to the Home Ministry, have sought paramilitary forces to ensure security.

Barring Tamil Nadu, all other states have agreed to host the matches with a rider that at least five to six companies (500-600 personnel) of para-military forces are kept at the disposal of the state police for security related issues, official sources said.

— Andhra Police is saying matches should be held there only after April 23 - the day voting ends in the state

— Kolkata wants at least three companies of central forces to be present. In addition, the Kolkata IPL games must get over before May 5

— Rajasthan has sent specific dates for rescheduling - April 26, May 6 and May 9 since elections in Rajasthan are on May 7

— Karnataka has shown its inability to hold matches between May 4 and May 12

At least three companies of central forces need to be present to secure venues during the IPL.

The Home Ministry will study the report before taking a decision on the matches with a less than a month left for the tournament to begin on April 10, a senior official said.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram is likely to take a call on Friday after going through the response of all the states.

Though the states where the Twenty20 matches will be held sought Central paramilitary forces, the IPL organisers had conveyed to the Home Ministry that they do not require any central forces for the security. The official said that a final decision would be taken by the Home Minister after consultations with senior officials.
