MUMBAI: India might have gone to the top spot in Test cricket, but the most traditional format of the game is being neglected.
South Africa will not play any Test matches when they tour India next year. Ideally this could have been a Test to look out for as just two points separate the two sides. However due to a packed calendar that includes the IPL, there will not be any Test matches for next year's series.
Cricket South Africa CEO Gerald Majola has been quoted in reports saying that only ODIs and Twenty20 games will be played. The Test matches to be played will be rescheduled.
BCCI secretary N Srinivasan says that a final programme will be released shortly. The Test matches are a part of the FTP and will take place even if some adjustments have to be made in the schedule. South Africa was to play three Test matches against India.
As things now stand between now and next November when India goes to South Africa, India will only play two Tests against Bangladesh.
