India Under-19 beat Australia Under-19 by nine wickets at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart despite a century from Mitchell Marsh, taking a 1-0 lead in the two match series.

Marsh, who bats in the middle-order, scored his first hundred of the series, but Australia were dismissed for 228. Marsh, whose father (Geoff) and brother (Shaun) have both played for Australia, scored 109 off only 123 balls, hitting11 fours and a six to go with his 29 and 3 for 36 earlier in the match.

He was supported by Nic Maddinson (42) and Tom Triffitt (28) but their efforts failed to prevent Indian opener Mayank Agarwal, who scored an unbeaten 62, and Avi Barot, not out on 52, from chasing down the target with ease.

"It was obviously good to get a few runs, just a shame we couldn't get a few more on the board and really put some pressure on them later today," Marsh said at the end of the match. "It was good to hit them reasonably well and get some time out there to work out the spinners and have a game plan against them and hit the ball well."

The final match of the series will be played in Perth between April 19 and 21 and Marsh hoped for an improved performance at the WACA, his home ground.

"I've played a few games there on the WACA, not big games, but I'm looking forward to getting out there. Hopefully the decks are good and the outfield is obviously excellent so hopefully we'll be in for some good cricket," Marsh said. "I think just with our bowling and fielding we've got to be a bit more consistent.

"When you've got batters like Mayank Agarwal and Mandeep Singh and those types of batsman you just can't afford to bowl bad deliveries and the only way to get players like that is to keep the pressure on to force the error," he said.
