Wellington: Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh fell in quick succession before a second downpour halted play at the Westpac stadium in Wellington on Friday.
India, who resumed after the first stoppage on a comfortable 130-1, lost their momentum in the four overs that followed as New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori accounted for Tendulkar leg before for 61, before Kyle Mills got the better of Yuvraj who was smartly caught by Ross Taylor for no score. An unchanged Indian line-up took the field as captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat at the Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar got India off to a brisk start with the latter playing anchor as Sehwag continued to torment the Kiwi bowlers. Despite a calf strain early in his innings which saw Suresh Raina walking out as a substitute runner, Sehwag belted nine fours and a six in his 36-ball stay. India preferred not to risk pace bowler Ishant Sharma who was injured during the second Twenty20 match. New Zealand, on the other hand, were forced to make a change owing to Brendon McCullum's thumb injury, which meant he would be unable to keep wickets. The home side handed a one-day international debut to Peter McGlashan, who steps in as wicketkeeper, while Neil Broom missed out.
