KOLKATA, 19 JUNE: For the first time in the city an Internet-based television service was launched today.
Internet-based television is a triple play offer, as it will provide Internet, television and landline telephone connectivity through a single cable line.
This service, which has been christened MyWay IPTV, will be provided by Smart Digivision Private Limited, through Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) broadband network. Only BSNL's broadband subscribers would be able to avail the service, by installing a set-top box. The newly launched television service will enable users' access to more than 126 channels including different regional channels. Apart from television, one can also watch any movie at any time. Currently, more than 120 movies have been made available and 200 more movies will be added to the movie gallery of MyWay IPTV within the next month.
Mr Tejvinder Singh, general manager (sales), Smart Digivision Private Limited said direct-to-home television service providers make only four to five movies available at a time. But, in MyWay IPTV they will keep adding new movies to the movie gallery. He further said the user interface of the television will also help subscribers to find out the status of railway reservations, weather forecast and current information on different tourist spots.
Mr Singh said the service has already been launched in 15 cities including Delhi, Kanpur, Varanasi, Dehradun, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. It will be be launched in 39 other cities soon.
