MUMBAI: Finally, it's official! The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) announced today that JS Sarma has taken charge as its chairman.
Indiantelevision.com had earlier reported that Sarma would soon be made Trai chairman.
Prior to Trai, Sarma was holding the post of Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (Tdsat) member.
Sarma will take over from acting chairman AK Sawhney, who took charge from former chairman Nripendra Misra, who retired on 22 March 2009 after a three-year tenure.
Sarma was appointed a member of Tdsat on 28 July 2008. He had earlier worked as additional secretary Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and secretary DoT from June 2005 to July 2006.
Born in 1948, Sarma is from IAS batch of 1971 from Andhra Pradesh Cadre. He is having Doctorate in Public Enterprises from the University of Paris.
