Jet, Kingfisher increase fares by Rs.400
Air travel on Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines has become costlier, with both carriers Wednesday increasing fuel surcharge on tickets by Rs.400 on all domestic sectors.

Attributing the decision to an increase in aviation fuel prices, Jet said the fuel surcharge would be applicable on all Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite flights from Wednesday.

An average fare for the Delhi-Mumbai sector for an economy class ticket will now be between Rs.5,500 to Rs.7,000.

'The increase was necessitated by sharp increase in ATF (aviation turbine fuel) prices by 33 percent since March 2009,' the airlines said in a statement Wednesday morning.

Kingfisher followed suit later in the day, saying its increased surcharge will also be applicable on all flights of subsidiary Kingfisher Red.

The revised fuel surcharge for distances below 750 km on Kingfisher Airways will be Rs.2,550, while for longer distances, it will be Rs.3,400.

Fuel surcharge for Kingfisher Red will now be Rs.2,350 and Rs.3,100, respectively.

National carrier Air India said it has not decided on a fare hike. 'We have not decided on it so far,' a spokesperson said.

State-run oil firms hiked fuel prices by 12 percent Monday, the sixth increase since March 16.

ATF now costs Rs.36,252 per kilolitre in Delhi, an increase of Rs.3,949. In Mumbai, it costs Rs.37,367 per kilolitre as compared to Rs.33,260 earlier.
