Kapil Dev threatens to sue BCCI over ICL

Keep on playing cricket. A simple action plan that Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev and the Essel Group promoted Indian Cricket League (ICL) will adopt in the coming months in the wake of the rebel league's failed bid to gain recognition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

ICL and BCCI officials met for the second time in Johannesburg last week, but the talks failed again, prompting Kapil Dev, chairman, ICL to threaten legal action. The World Cup winning legend said that the legal process would be initiated shortly.

Kapil took a dig at the BCCI. He says, "To me it's a very simple thing and we are just trying to promote the game. We are very proud and we will keep playing cricket. But it looks like the people who don't want to help the game are running it. The people looking after cricket in the country haven't played cricket at all," Kapil said.

However, the former India skipper said that the future of the ICL looked bright despite the recognition row. "The ICL will continue to exist. I don't see any reason for it not to, as long as our promoters provide us with the funding," Kapil said.

Earlier, it was learnt that the BCCI may put forth certain conditions which the ICL, left with little choice, would have to follow. The conditions include BCCI asking the ICL to immediately call off all its privately-sponsored T20 League. That, say sources, is agreeable to Zee who have already called off their World Cricket Series. But nothing seems to be amicable between both the BCCI and ICL.
