CHANDIGARH: The Congress MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, has written to the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ambika Soni, to intervene and check the Punjab government from imposing a 10 per cent tax on Direct to Home (DTH) service in the state.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Khaira has accused the Chief Minister’s family of misusing its influence to virtually capture the cable network trade in the state. They have through their front men and companies pushed old operators such as Citi Cable and other people out of cable network trade.
He said that hundreds of false cases were registered against cable operators in Punjab with a view to pressurize them to hand over cable network business to companies such as Fastway Cable Co. which indirectly belong to the Badal family.
He has written that the Punjab police acted as a private army of the Badals.
