World’s second largest PC manufacturer, Lenovo Group Ltd has unveiled a range of new additions to its ThinkPad offerings empowering innovation with the incorporation of VISION Pro technology from Advanced Micro Devices Corp. (AMD) for the first time in its devices.

Introducing ThinkPad Edge series
Lenovo is releasing new ThinkPad laptop series designed to push ThinkPad design and innovation to the edge. Called “ThinkPad Edge,” the series is available in the 13, 14 and 15 inch models. The PC manufacturer has designed these devices specifically for small to medium sized business (SMB) customers.

The ThinkPad Edge series are the first by Lenovo to offer AMD dual core processor technology and to be offered on AMD’s VISION Pro Technology. They “reflect a new progressive and strikingly clean appearance while retaining ThinkPad durability and reliability,” says the PC manufacturer in the press statement.

Spill-resistant keyboards and value-added ThinkVantage Technologies like the Active Protection System and Rescue and Recovery, have a sleek style, affordable, rich and vibrant color choices, are a few other features of the ThinkPad Edge series of laptops.

The ThinkPad Edge 13 inch version will be available starting January 5 with models starting at approximately $549 through Lenovo Business Partners and www.lenovo.com. The 14 and 15 inch versions will be available starting in 2Q 2010.

ThinkPad X100e ultraportable laptop

Lenovo also announced the ThinkPad X100e, the company’s first professional-grade ultraportable laptop starting below $500. Weighing less than 3 pounds, the X100e blends professional performance, usability and design.

The X100e also represents the first time Lenovo and AMD have collaborated to offer AMD processors on ThinkPad laptops and to leverage AMD’s VISION Pro branding.

Lenovo has been devising its products based on Intel platform so far. This is the first time the PC manufacturer has deployed the platform from AMD. By deploying AMD Neo chips to the ThinkPad family, Lenovo would be able to offer lower price points, said the company. ThinkPad laptops running on chips from Intel Corp will still be offered.
