More PS2 Titles Could Be Released in HD by Sony

More PlayStation 2 titles may get a High Definition update from Sony, as indicated by a survey recently handed out to PlayStation 3 owners. After the success of the re-release of the first two God of War games, which were revamped to take advantage of the console's processing power, Sony seems to have taken the fans' positive response seriously and is doing some research.

A reader sent a screen grab to Kotaku containing the following question: “What titles would you like to see in a future collection (2 or more PS2 titles upgraded with similar features to God of War Collection)?” The reader himself submitted an interesting wish-list containing games that many PS3 owners would like to see on their HDTVs, like Metal Gear, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, GTA, Final Fantasy or Silent Hill.

Recent rumors have indicated that Team Ico is preparing an HD collection comprising Ico and Shadow of the Colossus for early next year. This hasn't been confirmed by Sony yet, but the news seems to have originated from anonymous sources inside the Japanese gaming giant, so it's probably a safe bet to take it seriously.

Sony Computer Entertainment released the God of War Collection on the 17th of November, 2009, which featured the first two God of War games remastered to run at 60 frames per second and in a 720p resolution. They also featured Sony's achievement system, the PlayStation Network Trophies. This collection came as a move to promote the then-upcoming God of War 3. Later, all three titles were released in a pack that was also met with excitement by the fans.

God of War followers still have reasons to be excited about the series, as a new handheld title has been announced by Sony Santa Monica, called God of War: Ghost of Sparta. The game is meant to clear up some questions about Kratos' past, including the ones regarding his scar and his family. It is set to be launched sometime this year.
