Munaf gets SOS call for Sri Lanka tri-series

Fast bowler Munaf Patel is being rushed to Sri Lanka to bolster the Indian squad in the ongoing tri-series, also featuring New Zealand.

"Munaf Patel is joining the Indian team in Sri Lanka, as an additional member of the squad. He will reach Dambulla tomorrow [Friday]," a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday read.

India's bowling has looked quite ordinary in the last few months after many bowlers were ruled of action because of various injuries.

India suffered a scare in their last match -- the opening ODI of the tri-series, against New Zealand -- when pacer Abhimanyu Mithun bowled only four overs before he was forced to retire with heat stroke.

Fast bowler Ishant Sharma was also ruled of that match after suffering an ankle injury, depleting India's bowling resources further.

Strike bowler Zaheer Khan is already out of action because of injury, while lead spinner Harbhajan Singh was rested for the series after sustaining an injury during the Sri Lanka Test series.
