National Geographic Channel to introduce Tamil feed soon

National Geographic Channel (NGC) will decide on other language feeds including Tamil only after it stabilises in the Andhra Pradesh market, a senior executive said.

Fox International Channels, which has NGC and a host of other channels under its stable, has no plans at this stage to launch regional feeds for Fox History and Entertainment.

"At this point, the focus is on the Telugu feed. We will only decide on any other languages after we ascertain the learnings from our experiences here. And as for Fox History and Entertainment, we are having no plans to launch regional feeds as of now," said Fox International Channels managing director Keertan Adyanthaya.

NGC's Telugu feed does not have a separate advertising beam. "We are running the same ads as the English and Hindi feeds of NGC," said Adyanthaya.

The dubbing has been assigned to Words Infocom. NGC has roped in Tollywood actor Naga Chaitanya as the brand ambassador to promote the channel in Andhra Pradesh.

With rival Discovery not having a Telugu feed, NGC hopes to cover 90 per cent of C&S homes in Andhra Pradesh. Said Adyanthaya, "Andhra Pradesh as a state is home to one of the largest aggregations of C&S homes. We wanted to launch the Telugu feed earlier, but the technology and bandwidth that is available made it possible for us now."

NGC has tied up with almost all the cable operators in Andhra Pradesh to provide the Telugu feed. "We believe that the Andhra Pradesh
market is untapped and has a huge potential from the viewership point of view. We have done the deals with cable networks and DTH operators are also carrying the Telugu feed," said Adyanthaya.

Discovery launched a Tamil service in January this year. It also runs English and Hindi feeds.
