Compresses data usage up to 90 percent
It was just a few days ago that we first heard of Nokia's upcoming browser, the "Ovi Browser".
Back then, however, we were in doubt regarding the platform for which this one was arriving. A few days later, it is now clear where the Ovi browser is headed towards. The Ovi browser - at least in its current form, is designed for Nokia's mid-range Series 40 phones.
This puts the Ovi browser in the direct competition with Opera's Mini which has been in this space since 2005 and is arguably the most used mobile web browser on the planet today. As for the features of this one, let us warn you not to expect any thing revolutionary here. Like Opera Mini, the Ovi browser compresses data transfer by up to 90 percent over "normal" browsers. Other features include support for form and URL auto complete. Users can also select their default search engines. It also supports various view modes including a full page view, zoomed-in view, column view.
Note that the browser is in its beta form now and the commercial launch if the same would happen only by next year as it undergoes more development. A new beta however, is expected with even more features and localized content in the next few weeks. As mentioned earlier, the browser currently supports only S40 handsets - and that too not all of them. To check if your phone is supported, head to http://browser.ovi.com from your default browser and look if it's available for download.
