It's bonanza time for movie lovers, with multiplexes and ticketing portals going all out to woo them with dirt cheap offers.

For the early bird, bookmyshow.com will offer tickets at Re 1 across 750 screens in over 86 cities. “This is just a part of series of incredible offers.

The first 200 tickets retailed everyday will be available for this price. The next 2,000 will be sold at 20 per cent discount,” said Mr Ashish Hemrajani, Founder and CEO, Bigtree Entertainment.

‘Convenient fee'

However, users will be charged a ‘convenient fee' and service tax which would amount to Rs 15-20 each; so the Re 1 ticket will be available for Rs 16-21. “The offer is targeted at attracting movie lovers and is on till December 31,” he added. It will not be applicable to recliner seats.

Meanwhile, Fame Cinemas is offering various schemes and discounts depending on the movie and the market concerned.

For instance, it offered a flat 25 per cent discount in Bangalore for all tickets on Inception booked through its Web site from Monday to Thursday.

“We realised a whole lot of people were interested in watching the movie again and figured it would be a good idea to increase footfalls,” said Mr Rishi Negi, COO, Fame Cinemas. “My rentals and manpower costs are fixed. By offering discounts, we can manage to get a new set of audiences to walk into our theatres,” he added.

Similarly, Cinemax (with 94 multiplex screens across the country) has introduced Wonderful Wednesday at select properties where tickets will be priced at Rs 50 for any show through the day. “We have also tied up with Loop Mobile where the user of this service can get an additional ticket free with each one purchased on Friday,” said Mr Devang Sampat, President for Sales, Marketing and Operations.

For 3 Idiots, Cinemax had started shows as early as 6 a.m. by offering tickets 50 per cent off. These shows also offered free tea and biscuits and helped draw college students and senior citizens after their morning walk.

With hopes pinned on Aisha, Peepli Live, Dabang and We Are Family, these offers could just do the trick in getting larger footfalls.
