Parrot Unveils New Zikmu Designer Speakers

#1
Parrot is perhaps more known by most consumers as the manufacturers of Bluetooth and wireless calling peripherals, but the company came to CES with some high-end designer peripherals that looks and sound fantastic. Parrot's Zikmu wireless iPod dock and speakers have been on the market for a while, but Parrot announced four new colors of their high-end home audio product specifically for CES.

The Zikmu, which previously came only in glossy black, is now available in white, gray, and lime. All of the colors are available now, and support an iPod or iPhone via the docking station at the top of the speaker, or streaming audio from your PC or Mac via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Parrot's Zikmu speakers are aimed at a high-end designer audience, and the $1,600 price reinforces that point. These aren't units most people would buy for their living rooms or to add to their home stereo systems; the Zikmu is aimed at individuals who wouldn't mind spending the money to get a compact wireless sound solution that fits in a corner, streams music from your computer, and charges your iPod at the same time.

The Zikmu streams audio from any PC on your home network via wifi or Bluetooth. Mac users will have to settle for Bluetooth, but the Zikmu supports stereo Bluetooth audio from any Bluetooth-enabled device. The device also has RCA line-in ports so you can connect it to your HDTV or receiver and use it as the speakers for your home audio system. The Zikmu also comes with a matching remote that you can use to control music playback.

Parrot also announced a software update to go along with the new Zikmu collection. The update allows you to play music from your iPod remotely and toggle between equalizer presets.

This way, if you have the Zikmu management software installed on your computer and use it to stream audio to the device, you can toggle between your music collection and your iPod from inside the Parrot management app, and select the song you'd like to play.
