President for new Network 18-AETN joint venture
Rebecca Hawkes RapidTVNews | 17-10-2010

AETN18 Media, the recently created broadcasting joint venture between Network 18 and AETN, has a new man at the helm following the appointment of Ajay Chacko as president.
Mr Chacko, who has been working for India’s Network 18 media conglomerate for the past seven years, will now oversee the operational, strategic and financial management of AETN18, plus the new channels and services it will provide.
History, Bio, Crime & Investigation Network are among the AETN entertainment channels which will be introduced to the Indian market via the new venture – although a launch date is yet to be revealed.
“The entertainment space in India is ripe for a new phase of growth and I believe that Ajay will play a significant role in making AETN18 a leader of this trend,” said B Saikumar, Group COO, Network 18.
“I am confident of his ability to seed media brands, establish them and create leadership. This, coupled with his intimate understanding of the broadcast space will help AETN18 achieve the objective of creating India’s leading factual entertainment network and in the process, expand the genre.”
Sean Cohan, senior vice president of the US-based media content company AETN International said: “Ajay brings a very successful track record as a leader and a wealth of knowledge about the Indian market to the venture.”
Mr Chacko’s career in the media and entertainment services industry spans 15 years. Most recently at Network 18, he played what the company describes as a ‘critical role in steering [business news TV channels] CNBC TV18, CNBC AWAAZ and Forbes India to leadership positions’.
Speaking about his appointment, Mr Chacko said: “I believe that the Indian factual entertainment opportunity is truly compelling, with the twin forces of evolving viewer tastes and digitisation driving demand for such content to an inflection point.”
AETN is a joint venture between Disney-ABC Television Group, Hearst Corporation and NBC Universal; while Network 18 has interests in television, print, internet, filmed entertainment, mobile content and allied businesses.
