Rapid-Ball is a sport ideal for all ages, in fact the whole family. It is a new sport played on standard Squash court with an official Racquet-Ball ball (similar to a tennis ball without the fur, made of rubber and smaller in size). The racquet is a standard Racquet-Ball although it is possible to play a good game using children´s short handle tennis racquets which are similar in size and lenght to a Racquet-Ball racquet at a fraction of the cost.

The rules are starighforward and easy to learn. It has the added posibility of hitting the ball after it returns from the back wall and no net, therefore long rallies are easily achieved.

If you are finding Squash a strain on the body, or if you haave minor arm, knee or back nigglesbut are desperate to get back on a Squash court, this cpuld be the sport for you. The ball has a high bounce allowing for sufficient time for a stroke without the damaging stretching and bending requyired in Squash. It is also a greta leveller between playes of badminton, squash and tennis as it does not favour any of tese sports.

It is an aerobic exercise providing a great deal of movement without stress. Some say it is similar to jogging with the added interest of a ball and an opponent to outwit. The result is a good sweaty workout in 45 minutes.

A few years ago, after thirty-five years of playing squash – several times per week – the body of the inventor of this sport (Peter V. Haighton) said “no more”!

So, armed with two children’s tennis racquets and a racquetball ball, he entered a squash court with a friend and started knocking the ball about. After several sessions and much thought, the rules gradually materialised with the intention of making it very easy to learn without complicated lets and points as in squash. Little by little - after much criticism by young squash players – more and more people, especially in their thirties and above, wanted to try the sport. Word spread and many squash players who had given up the sport due to niggling injuries came to try the new game and enjoyed it without any painful after effects whilst at the same time having a very hard aerobic workout.

Now it has grown and the standard of play has risen to a level beyond belief with experienced tennis, padel and squash players all very much involved in the sport and regularly competing against each other.

By the millennium many squash clubs across Spain were suffering from a down-turn in the popularity of squash. The introduction of Rapid-Ball has meant an increase in membership as tennis, padel and retired squash players became members. The utilisation of the squash courts has increased immensely to the point of saturation. Some clubs are reporting that the Rapid-Ball/squash split is almost fifty-fifty with many members complaining that they are unable to book a court. Purpose-built new clubs are about to be built to cater for this increase in demand.
