Leading telecom service provider, Reliance Communications, on Tuesday launched games on USSD platform to enable users to play games on any GSM handset with a Reliance Mobile connection.

Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is a capability of all GSM phones and is associated with instant messaging type phone services, a press release issued here stated.

The response times for interactive USSD-based services are generally quicker than those used for SMS.

Games on USSD are being launched with one of the most popular games Tic Tac Toe also commonly known as Noughts and Crosses, an ideal educational yet fun tool for teaching concepts of strategy.

The users can pit themselves against the program itself and the player, who succeeds in placing three respective marks in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row wins the game.

"Games on USSD will be available on all GSM handsets, from high-end to the low-end ones. The product is designed keeping in mind the evolving market dynamics," Reliance Communications, Head (VAS), Krishna Durba, said.
