Specializing in designing and manufacturing electric cars – REVA Electric Car Company (RECC) has announced that it is planning to build the world’s largest electric vehicle factory, capable of producing 30,000 units of small plug-in cheap electric cars annually.
The Bangalore, Karnataka based RECC has declared that it is building its new Rs 300 million ($6.1 million) manufacturing facility, near company headquarters in Bangalore, which will start production in the first quarter of 2010.
Currently, RECC produces two variants of its REVA, with 2+2 seat configuration. The 2+2 REVA, an urban electric micro-car capable of seating two adults and two kids, is a small hatchback powered by eight six-volt batteries. The two variants include “REVA i” and “REVA L-ion”.
‘REVA i’ is equipped with lead-acid batteries; it has a nominal range of 80 km (50 mi) per charge and a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). ‘REVA L-ion’ is equipped with Lithium-ion batteries; it has faster acceleration and a nominal range of 120 km (75 mi) per charge. In 2005, RECC built the REVA-NXG, a two-seater roadster concept car with a nominal range of 200 km (124 mi) per charge and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). RECC is planning to roll out a roomier four-seater model by the end of 2009. RECC also makes a Golf cart called FERI.
