MUMBAI: Reliance Mobile has announced plans to leverage its partnership with International Cricket Council (ICC) by showing the World T20 matches on its value-added-services (Vas) platform.

Reliance Mobile is partner of the ICC for its events till 2015.

For the T20 World Cup, which is kicking off on 5 June in England, Reliance Mobile has set up a ICC World T20 zone on R World. This zone will have videos, wallpapers, ringtones, animations, live score as well as m-games related to the championship.

Reliance made the announcement while unveiling the event’s trophy today in Mumbai.

Reliance Communications group head - branding and marketing Sanjay Behl said, "We are offering subscribers an option of having scores and commentary on the matches as their caller tune. Our partnership with the ICC runs till 2015 and is worth over $100 million. We will use cricket as a platform to boost our Vas offerings."

On the users of R World, Behl added, "Around 30 million users visit R World at least once a month. R World has over 100 cricket applications. We will also offer video streams of the event. While the pricing for the streams has not been fixed, it will probably be in the range of Rs 10-15 per minute. We use Edge enabled 3G technology and so the quality will be excellent.”

Reliance Mobile will also be launching a "Cricket Dhanadhan" subscription offer where users will get score updates through SMS and other news updates related to the ICC World T20 championship, the company said in a release. Additionally, subscribers can call a toll free number to listen to live score updates.

Reliance Mobile is the presenting sponsor of ESPN Star Sports, the broadcaster of the event. In addition the company will be doing on-ground promotions. It will also take select dealers and consumers to England to watch the event.

The company will start a multimedia campaign to create awareness about what it is doing for the event. The tagline will be ‘You can watch the finals in London’. It also plans to do a campaign using its brand ambassador Ishant Sharma.

While not disclosing revenue expectations, Behl says that the deal with the ICC includes some revenue sharing. The company is also looking at cross promotional activities with other ICC partners like Pepsi and Yahoo.

Yahoo! is the ICC’s net partner and Reliance is looking at a deal involving live clips. It will also look at doing interactive cricket on DTH, Behl adds.
