Royal Challengers Bangalore to Finalize Squad for IPL
Advertisement
#1
Royal Challengers Bangalore would be the first team that is going to finalize its squad for the Indian Premier League, IPL and start in right earnest the preparation for the second season. It would hope to turn the table from the performance that the team was able to muster in the inaugural tournament. Efforts have been put in place by the managing committee of the Royal Challengers Bangalore to include players from all over the world who are the best in their field.

When the CEO of Royal Challengers Bangalore Brajesh Patel along with the coach Ray Jennings, and assistant coach Sanath Kumar would be sitting together the issue that would be vexing them is to whom they should assign the job of leading the team of Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the first season the mantle was given to Rahul Dravid, but the in-charge of the Royal Challengers Bangalore had already given hints that the issue of captain of the team is still open for the second season and this statement had left a cat among the pigeons. It would indeed be the most important news item for the second season of IPL that would be awaited with great anticipation. If the captainship is not conferred on Dravid, then it would be difficult for him to even find a place in the final playing eleven.

When Kevin Pietersen was hired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, there was a speculation that he may be asked to lead the side, but with Pietersen still having a second view whether he would be playing in the IPL or not, and he being available only till 01 May, the management of Royal Challengers Bangalore would indeed be hard pressed to find a captain if they decide not to give Dravid the job. The race for the captainship would indeed still be there as Robin Uthappa is also in the reckoning after having been transferred from Mumbai Indians to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

It indeed is one of the biggest problems for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as none of the other teams in the IPL has a crisis of this sort. In every other team the leadership issue is well settled, and it provides a good moral booster for the team, while in case of Royal Challengers Bangalore it would be a major challenge. Another challenge that the team would face is whether to continue with Sunil Joshi in the second season, as he is also one player who is over the hill as far as his cricketing career is concerned.
