Slipstream/Integrate Service Pack 2 RTM into Office 2007

As is the general case with service pack releases from Microsoft, SP2 for the company's latest version of the productivity suite can be integrated into Office 2007. The process, known as slipstreaming, involves making the Service Pack 2 RTM an integral part of Office 2007. The result will permit customers who acquired pre-SP2 versions of Office 2007 to install both the productivity suite and the most recent service pack in a
single deployment, rather than go through the installation process twice.

First off, make sure to grab a copy of Office 2007 SP2. Users must understand that Office service packs are cumulative. In this regard, they will not need to integrate SP1 and then SP2 into Office 2007. Slipstreaming SP2 will suffice as the service pack contains SP1.

After you have downloaded the office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe file from Microsoft, make sure to create two different folders on a local drive. For this specific example I will use E:. So, create E:\Extracted_files and E:\Updated_files. Copy Office 2007 SP2 to the Extracted_files folder. Next you will have to launch command prompt. Just type cmd in the search box under the Start Menu and right click selecting Run as administrator, to enjoy full privileges. Next you will need to run the following command CD E:\Extracted_files\office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:E:\Updated_files.

During the extraction process you will have to agree to the End User License Agreement (EULA), but otherwise you need to do nothing. Once the Installer is done you need to move all the content of the Updated_files folder to the Updates folder in the Office install folder, and this is pretty much it. The result can be burnt on a DVD or saved locally or on a network share.

One more method of Slipstreaming/Integrating Microsoft Office 2007 Service Pack 2 Into RTM Installation Files

1. Extract and copy the contents of the Office 2007 RTM image or disc to a temporary folder.

For example, C:\Office2007.

2. Download or copy the Office 2007 SP2 Update file to another temporary folder.

For example, C:\Office2007SP2 (office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe)

3. Open a command prompt, and run the following command to retrieve and get the Office 2007 SP update MSP:

C:\Office2007SP2\office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:C:\Office2007\Updates\

Note: The drive letters, folder names and the service pack file names (name for SP2 and SP2 is different) may vary according to your own preferences.

4. Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms to start integrating the service pack to Office 2007 installation files. The process will expand several .msp files to “Updates” folder.

5. Optionally, uses disc image manipulation programs to re-create a fresh Office 2007 SP1/SP2 ISO image, or burn the Office 2007 SP1/SP2 installation files inside C:\Office2007 folder to a disc media with disk burning software.

The setup for Office 2007 will now automatically apply updates for SP2 during installation.
