MUMBAI: Star Plus, the Hindi general entertainment channel from the Star stable, is set to launch a new music-based reality show that will see musicians Himesh Reshammiya, Mika Singh, Mohit Chauhan, Shaan and Shankar Mahadevan share the same platform.

Christened Music ka Mahamuquabla, the show has been conceptualised and produced by Gajendra Singh of Sai Baba Telefilms. The series, spanning 13 weeks, is tipped to be launched sometime in mid-December to occupy the weekend primetime slot.

The show will feature "intense rivalry" between six teams, captained by the singing celebrities. Completing each team will be three accomplished young singers as well a newbie singer selected through auditions from among the country's multitudes.

Auditions will be held in Mumbai, Kolkta, Jaipur, Lucknow, Delhi and Ahmedabad, to hunt for the singer who will join each team representing a different region.

Says Star India chief operating officer Sanjay Gupta, "Just when everyone thought that there is no way one can reinvent a music realty show, Star Plus has done precisely that. For the first time, we will see the top names in the industry perform and compete. This is quite simply a coming together of the A-list, a contest between the best of the best."

The channel will kick-off a 360 degree marketing activity in the next 2-3 weeks to ensure that the new property gets extensive brand exposure.

Says Star India VP - marketing Harikrishnan C, "Apart from promoting the property across network channels, we will also use other channels across various genres to gain maximum visibility. While television will form 60 per cent of the media mix, the rest 40 per cent will consist of print, radio, social media, on-ground activation and mobile."

The channel has roped in Amul as the title sponsor while Nestle Munch and All Out have come on board as associate sponsors.

"Since there are six teams in the show, we are looking at roping in six associate sponsors and six co-sponsors - one for each team," says a channel source.

While Mindshare is the media agency for the channel, O&M handles the creative duties.

MUMBAI: Star Plus has renewed its vows with Gajjendra Singh, with a new music 'reality show' that brings musicians Himesh Reshammiya, Mika Singh, Mohit Chauhan, Shaan and Shankar Mahadevan on one platform.

The USP of the show, announced formally by the channel on Friday is that each celebrity musician will have under his tutelage accomplished young singers as well a newbie singer selected through auditions from among the country's multitudes. Christened Music Ka Maha Muqabla, the show takes the place of Star Plus' Voice of India, which ran for two seasons on the channel till last year. Amul continues to be the sponsor of Maha Muqabla. The channel has managed to tease viewers' curiosity by announcing that there will be a sixth team, captained by a mystery sixth celebrity.
