Hyderabad (PTI): Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) would submit its report on rural telephony to the Department of Telecom (DoT) in the next week, TRAI Chairman Nripendra Misra said here on Thursday.

"By Monday, we should be able to send recommendations, a new set of recommendations, to the Department of Telecom on the next 100 million of rural telephony," Misra told reporters here.

He, however, declined to disclose the recommendations.

"Our main focus today is the next 100 million from rural areas," Misra said.

Stressing the need for expanding telephone connectivity in rural areas, he said, "In Hyderabad, many people will have two phones. In Delhi, 60 per cent have two handsets. But that is not India".

To a question on poor quality of broadband services, he said TRAI was addressing the issue and a paper had already been prepared on the matter.

Replying to a query on portability of set-top boxes for DTH services, he said the authority has floated a draft regulation on the DTH quality of services. The report also discusses issues of set-top boxes.
