Star Utsav grabs second position; pushes Colors on fourth in Urban + Rural HSM: BARC week 32

MUMBAI: In Urban + Rural Hindi speaking market (HSM) Star India’s both the channels Star Plus and Star Utsav grabbed the first two position in top ten Hindi GECs list whereas Zee TV pushed down to three and Colors bagged the fourth spot.

In rural HSM, Star Utsav continues to dominate the market and Star Plus again ruled the Urban HSM in week 32 as per the Broadcast Audience Research Council ( BARC) all India data

Urban + Rural HSM
With a rise in rating Star Plus continues to lead the Hindi general entertainment channel genre with 691536 Impressions (000) against 659591 Impressions (000s). Star Utsav replaced Zee TV on second position with 598686 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee TV on third spot with 586734 Impressions (000s).

Colors fell on number four with 586734 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee Anmol on fifth spot with 490427 Impressions (000s) and Life OK stood on sixth with 426878 Impressions (000s).

In week 32, Sony Pal stood at seventh with 395033 Impressions (000s) and SPN’s other channels Sab TV and Sony Entertainment Television grabbed eight and ninth spot with 375475 Impressions (000s) and 352633 Impressions (000s) respectively.

Rishtey bagged the tenth spot with 262899 Impressions (000s).

Rural HSM
In week 32, Star Utsav maintained its leadership position with 4461095 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee Anmol at second position with 369868 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal on the third spot with 300109 Impressions (000s). Zee TV maintained its fourth position with 253205 Impressions (000s).

Star Plus garnered fifth place with 216470 Impressions (000s) and Rishtey bagged sixth spot with 194410 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at number seven with 182605 Impressions (000s). Life Ok stood at eight with 154643 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television at ninth place with 97182 impressions (000s) while Big Magic stood tenth 95019 Impressions (000s).

Urban HSM
Star Plus garnered the pole position with 475066 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at second place with 403412 Impressions (000s) and Zee TV with 333529 Impressions (000s) stood at number three.

Sab TV grabbed the fourth spot with 283193 Impressions (000s) followed by Life Ok at fifth with 272235 Impressions (000s) and Sony Entertainment Television with 255451 Impressions (000s).

In urban HSM, &TV maintained its number seven position with 158318 Impressions (000s) followed by Star Utsav with 137591 Impressions (000s) on eighth and Zee Anmol bagged ninth spot with 120560 Impressions (000s). Sony Pal bagged tenth spot with 94924 Impressions (000s).

Comedy Central and Movies Now dominate respective genres

MUMBAI: Comedy Central dominated the English Entertainment genre whereas Movies Now replaced Star Movies taking the number one position in the English Movies space.

According to week 32 of BARC India rating, six Mega Cities : NCCS AB : 4+ Individuals, Colors Infinity SD re-entered in the top five English Entertainment genre player list in this week's data.

English Entertainment
Comedy Central dominated the genre with 270 Impressions (000s) followed by Star World taking the second slot with 181 Impressions (000s). AXN grabbed the third berth with 153 Impressions (000s).

Zee Cafe with 148 Impressions (000s) took the fourth slot, whereas Colors Infinity SD re-entered was at the fifth position with 85 Impressions (000s).

English Movies
Movies Now toppled Star Movies with 3192 Impressions (000s) taking the number one place in the English movies genre. Star Movies grabbed the second berth with 2870 Impressions (000s). Sony Pix with 1682 Impressions (000s) secured the third slot. HBO with 1508 Impressions (000s) and Zee Studio with 1239 Impressions (000s) grabbed the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

English entertainment and infotainment genres see ranks shuffle barring the top

MUMBAI: It was a week of turbulence for the English entertainment channels as they changed positions, barring Comedy Central which stayed at the top.

Zee Café moved up from the fourth rank to the second position in the week ended 19 August, according to BARC data.

AXN was pushed out of the top five spot, and its third position from the previous week was occupied by the HD version of AXN.

Star World slipped to the fourth place, down from its second rank a week ago. Colors Infinity SD was ousted from the fifth position by Star World HD.

This was perhaps the first week since BARC’s inception that an SD and HD version of the same channel made it to the top 5.


English movie channels

The English movie genre witnessed a rise in viewership.All the top five channels saw some growth in the week ended 19 August.

The pecking order remained unchanged, with Movies Now leading the pack. Star Movies stood second, followed by Sony Pix.


Top 5 movies

Three movies shown by Movies Now were in the top 5. Jackie Chan’s ‘Drunken Master II’ was the most-watched film of the week.

‘Despicable Me’ on Star Movies was the second top-ranked movie, followed by ‘Mission Impossible III’ on HBO.


Infotainment genre

Much like the English entertainment channels, the infotainment genre saw a similar displacement of positions.

NGC was the second-ranked channel, up from its third position a week ago. History TV18 saw a similar rise as it landed in the third spot. Nat Geo too climbed a spot up to end the week in the fourth place.

Animal Planet slipped from second place to end Week 33 at No. 5.


Kids channels

Hungama rose to be the No. 2 kids channel from previous week’s fourth position. Cartoon Network slipped from second to fourth position.

Nick continued to reign at the top of the hierarchy.

BARC Week 33: Pay TV channels declines in ratings

MUMBAI: The standout of week 33 was the fall in ratings for all the major pay TV Hindi general entertainment channels, according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all India data.

Other noteworthy changes were: Big Magic exited the Rural HSM top ten channels list and Sab TV came in at number 10.

Urban + Rural HSM

Star Plus continued as the undisputed leader in the general entertainment channel genre even after a fall in ratings with 668069 Impressions (000s) as against 691536 Impressions (000). Star Utsav too witnessed a fall but maintained its position at number two with 549545 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee TV at third position with 542520 Impressions (000s) against 598686 Impressions (000s). Fourth placed Colors generated 508811 Impressions (000s) as against 586734 Impressions (000s).

Zee Anmol on the fifth spot with 479214 Impressions (000) against 490427 Impressions (000s) and number six was Life OK with 405279 Impressions (000s).

In week 33, Sony Pal stood at seventh with 401288 Impressions (000s) and SPN’s other channels Sab TV and Sony Entertainment Television grabbed eight and ninth spot with 375133 Impressions (000s) and 369158 Impressions (000s) respectively.

Rishtey bagged the tenth spot with 300669 Impressions (000s).

Rural HSM

In week 33, Star Utsav maintained its leadership position with 417767 Impressions against 4461095 Impressions (000s) in week 32, followed by Zee Anmol at second position with 367641 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal on the third spot with 309802 Impressions (000s). Zee TV retained its fourth position with 231427 Impressions (000s).

Rishtey replaced Star Plus on fifth place with 222953 Impressions (000s) and Star Plus bagged the sixth spot with 216435 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at number seven with 151145 Impressions (000s). Life Ok stood at eight with 147949 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television at ninth place with 105116 Impressions (000s) while Sab TV entered the list at tenth spot with 103480 Impressions (000s). Big Magic exited this week.

Urban HSM

Star Plus garnered the pole position even after a dip ratings with 451634 Impression (000s)against 475066 Impressions (000s) in week 33 followed by Colors at second place with 357667 Impressions (000s) and Zee TV with 311093 Impressions (000s) stood at number three.

Sab TV grabbed the fourth spot with 271653 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television at fifth with 257330 Impressions (000s) and Life Ok with 264041 Impressions (000s).

In urban HSM, &TV maintained its number seven position with 159776 Impressions (000s) followed by Star Utsav with 131778 Impressions (000s) on eighth and Zee Anmol bagged ninth spot with 111573 Impressions (000s). Sony Pal was at tenth with 91486 Impressions (000s).

‘Baaghi’ is top-rated TV premiere of 2016

[Image: screenshot_www_televisionpost_com_2016_08_27_07.jpg]MUMBAI: After a successful theatrical run, Tiger Shroff- and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer ‘Baaghi’ has emerged as the highest-rated world television premiere of 2016, claims Zee Cinema.

The movie was premiered on Independence Day at 12:30 pm on the channel.

As per BARC data shared by the channel, ‘Baaghi’ rated 7,484 TVTs in thousands for HSM 4+ Urban Weeks 13–33. It beat Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela-starrer ‘Sanam Re’, which had rated 5,666 TVTs in thousands on Star Gold.

At third position was the premiere of ‘Bajirao Mastani’ on Colors which had registered 5,476 TVTs in thousands.

Movies Now and Comedy Central continue to stay at the top

MUMBAI: Movies Now continued to be the top-ranked English movie channel while Sony Pix and Star Movies swapped places, according to BARC data for the week ended 26 August.

Sony Pix lapped up more audiences to snatch the second spot from Star Movies.

HBO and Zee Studio continued to occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Top 5 movies Movies

Now and Star Movies had two of their movie screenings in the top five.

While ‘Child’s Play 2’ on Movies Now was the most-watched movie of the week, ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ shown on Star Movies took the second spot.

‘Bruce Lee’s Secret’, screened on Movies Now, came third.

English entertainment genre

The English entertainment genre saw shuffles in the second, third and fourth positions, while Comedy Central continued to sit at the top.

Star World jumped two places to occupy the second spot in the week ended 26 August, according to BARC data.

Zee Café slipped a rank down to settle at No. 3, while AXN took the fourth spot. Star World HD retained its fifth position.

Infotainment genre

There was no change in the pecking order of the infotainment genre for the top three spots. Discovery stayed ahead of others, followed by NGC and History TV18.

Animal Planet and Nat Geo Wild swapped places. Animal Planet took the fourth place, according to BARC data for the week ended 26 August.

Kids channels

Cartoon Network jumped two places to end the week in the second place. Hungama slipped down to the fourth spot, replacing Cartoon Network’s position in the week-ago period.

Slide of Star Utsav allows Zee TV to be No. 2 Hindi GEC; Zee Anmol bags top honours in rural HSM

MUMBAI: Free-to-air (FTA) Hindi GEC Star Utsav was a loser in the week ended 26 August, getting displaced from its second spot by Zee TV in the combined urban and rural Hindi-speaking markets (HSM). Star Utsav also lost its leadership position in rural HSM to Zee Anmol.

Top Hindi GECs in Urban+Rural HSM

In urban + rural HSM, the top three positions went back to the mainstream pay channels. Star Utsav had pierced this market for some time by occupying the second position.

Zee TV bagged the second position pushing Star Utsav to the fifth slot. Colors bagged the third position which was with Zee TV in the previous week.

Zee Anmol upgraded to the fourth position. The sixth to tenth positions remained unchanged.

Top shows in Urban+Rural HSM

Zee TV and Star Plus had two shows each in the list of the top five programmes, while Colors had one.

Zee TV’s ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ was the top-rated show of the week. The channel’s ‘Brahmarakshas-Jaag Utha Shaitan’ took the second spot.

The next two positions were occupied by Star Plus’ shows ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ and ‘Ye Hai Mohabbatein’.

Colors’ ‘Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki’ took the fifth spot.

Hindi GECs in Rural HSM

Zee Anmol bagged top honours in rural HSM beating Star Utsav, which moved to the second position.

According to BARC data for the week ended 26 August, Star Plus and SAB TV moved one position up, while Rishtey and Sony Entertainment Television (SET) each moved a level down compared to their previous week’s ranking.

The rest of the positions remained unaltered.


Top shows in Hindi rural HSM

Zee Anmol had the most number of shows in the top 5, while Star Utsav and Zee TV had one show each.

Zee Anmol’s ‘Jodha Akbar’ continued to be the top-rated show in rural HSM, followed by ‘Bandini’.


Top Hindi GECs in Urban HSM

In the urban HSM, Life OK and Zee Anmol moved one level up to the fourth and eighth positions respectively. SET and Star Utsav saw their rankings go one level down.

The top three channels continued to be Star Plus, Colors and Zee TV, necessarily in that order.


Top 5 shows in Urban HSM

The urban top five programmes were more evenly split, with Star Plus having two shows in the list and Zee TV, SET and Colors having one show each.

‘Kumkum Bhagya’ was the top-rated show, followed by ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’.

‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ on Sony was the third-ranked show of the week


Top Hindi movie channels

It was status quo in the Hindi movie genre as far as the top four rankings go. Max, Sony Wah, Zee Cinema and Star Gold occupied the list, necessarily in that order.

The fifth place, meanwhile, went to Star Utsav Movies. In the previous week, the fifth slot was held by Rishtey Cineplex.


Top 5 programmes

Sony Max and Zee Cinema had two movies each in the top 5 programmes’ list while Star Gold had one.

‘Baaghi’ on Zee Cinema was the top-rated movie of the week, followed by ‘PK’ on Max. ‘Sholay’ on Star Gold took the third spot.

Star Plus and Zee Anmol retain position on BARC meter in week 35

MUMBAI: Zee Anmol's shows Jodha Akbar, Bandini and Kasam Hai Tujhe Aa Abhi Ja grabbed top three positions in top five programmes of Hindi GEC in the Rural Hindi-Speaking Market. Backed by top three shows Zee Anmol continues to lead the genre, according to the all-India data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). In Urban + Rural and Urban Hindi Speaking Market, Star Plus continues to dominate the genre and maintains its leadership position in week 35.

Urban +Rural (HSM)

With a rise in ratings, Star Plus continued as the undisputed leader in the general entertainment channel genre with 761819 Impressions (000s) against 732303 Impressions (000s) in week 34.

Zee TV maintained its second slot in week 35, and registered 598075 Impressions (000s) against 577316 Impressions (000s) in the previous week. Followed by Colors on third with 537562 Impressions (000s) and Zee Anmol, which stood on number four with 517888 Impressions (000s) against 530845 Impressions (000s). Star Utsav bagged the fifth position with 440375 Impressions (000s) and Life OK grabbed the sixth spot with 411927 Impressions (000s), respectively.

Sony Pictures Network’s three channels retain their position this week. Its free-to-air channel Sony Pal stood at number seven with 389607 Impressions (000s) followed by Sab TV on the eighth position with 384302 Impressions (000s) and Sony Entertainment Television on the ninth recorded 377075 Impressions (000s). Rishtey at the tenth level registered 301226 Impressions (000s).

Rural HSM

Backed by three shows Jodha Akbar, Bandini, Kasam Hai Tujhe Aa Abhi Ja, Zee Anmol maintained its leadership position with 395901 Impressions (000s) followed by Star Utsav at second position with 332806 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal on the third spot with 290193 Impressions (000s). Zee TV maintained its fourth position with 256256 Impressions (000s).

Star Plus bagged the fifth spot with 253005 Impressions (000s). Rishtey maintained its sixth spot in the Rural HSM with 223074 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at number seven with 168687 Impressions (000s). Life Ok stood at the eight position with 143701 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television at the ninth place with 104130 Impressions (000s) while Sab TV at tenth spot garnered 104110 Impressions (000s).

Urban HSM

Star Plus garnered the pole position with 508814 Impression (000s) against 495758 Impressions (000s) in week 34 followed by Colors at the second place with 368875 Impressions (000s) and Zee TV with 341759 Impressions (000s) stood at number three. MUMBAI: Star Plus and Zee Anmol remained the undisputed leaders in Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) genre in urban and rural Hindi-speaking market, according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC)'s all India data of week 36.

Urban +Rural (HSM)

Star Plus continued as the undisputed leader in the general entertainment channel genre with 743856 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee TV on second slot and registered 578775 Impressions (000s) and Colors on third with 576900 Impressions (000s).

Zee Anmol stood on number four with 485943 Impressions (000s). Star Utsav bagged the fifth position with 434673 Impressions (000s) and Life OK grabbed the sixth spot with 412379 Impressions (000s), respectively.

Sony Pictures Network’s three channels retain their position this week. Its free-to-air channel Sony Pal stood at number seven with 382183 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television on the eighth position with 381091 Impressions (000s) and Sab TV on the ninth recorded 368837 Impressions (000s). Rishtey at the 10th level registered 339335 Impressions (000s).

Rural HSM

Week 37: Sony TV garners positive rating; Colors replaces Zee TV in U+R market

MUMBAI: Unlike other weeks, week 37 witnessed developments in terms of ratings and position. Though Star Plus continued to dominate the Hindi GEC (U+R) market but Colors this week replaced Zee TV at number two. On the other hand, Sony Entertainment Television saw a rise in ratings in Urban HSM market and grabbed the fourth position this week. Zee Anmol retains its leadership position in Rural HSM.

Urban +Rural (HSM)

Even after a drop in ratings Star Plus continued to lead the Hindi GEC genre with 712424 Impressions (000s) against 743856 Impressions (000s) in week 36. Colors after a three four weeks time grabbed the second position with 612736 Impressions (000s).

Zee TV bagged the third spot with 547001 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee Anmol on fourth with 493701 Impressions (000s) and Star Utsav on fifth with 454936 Impressions (000s).

In week 37, Sony Entertainment Television climbed to number six with 433257 Impressions (000s) followed by Life OK at number seven with 430290 Impressions(000s) and Sony Pal stood at number eight with 406409 Impressions (000).

Sab TV and Rishtey garnered ninth and tenth spot with 381074 Impressions(000s) and 345081 Impressions(000s) respectively.

Rural HSM

Zee Anmol retains its leadership position with 377273 Impressions (000s) followed by Star Utsav at second position with 347840 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal on the third spot with 301357 Impressions (000s). Rishtey grabbed fourth position with 257798 Impressions (000s).

Star Plus stood on number five with 230525 Impressions (000s). Zee TV bagged sixth spot this week with 228641 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at number seven with 199733 Impressions (000s). Life OK stood at the eighth position with 156519 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television at the ninth place with 132252 Impressions (000s) while Sab TV at 10th spot garnered 102971 Impressions (000s).

Urban HSM

Star Plus garnered the pole position with 481899 Impression (000s) followed by Colors at the second place with 413004 Impressions (000s) and Zee TV with 318360 Impressions (000s) stood at number three. Sony Entertainment Television climbed up at fourth position with 301005 Impressions (000s).

Sab TV grabbed the fifth spot with 278104 Impressions (000s) followed by Life OK at sixth with 273770 Impressions (000s) and & TV with 138620 Impressions (000s) on seventh position.

In Urban HSM, Zee Anmol with 116428 Impressions (000s) on eighth and Star Utsav bagged the ninth spot with 107096 Impressions (000s). Sony Pal bagged the tenth spot with 105052 Impressions (000s).
