MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has issued 37 new provisional multi-system operator (MSO) licences between 22 August and 30 September, taking the total number of provisional registrations to 774.
The MIB has also issued two new pan-India licences. Indore-based Hindi publication Dabang Duniya Publication and Mumbai-based Alfa Cable have been granted pan-India licences.
With these new permissions, the total MSO licences have crossed the 1,000 mark.
Most of the provisional licences are either for an entire state or for specific districts in a state.
The majority of the registrations have been issued for digital addressable system (DAS) Phase III and IV areas in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
The MIB has also revised the area of operation of Udaipur-based Matarani Cable TV Network to the entire state of Rajasthan.
The applications of Andhra Pradesh Guntur-based 21st Century Cable Network and Kerala Ernakulam-based Travancore Entertainment Network have been closed for being incomplete.
The ministry has not granted any permanent registration since January this year. The total of permanent licences stands unchanged at 229. With this, the total MSO licences have touched 1,003.
