Update: Reliance JioPhone deliveries to begin from September 21: Report
#1

Ever since its launch, the Reliance JioPhone has been the talk of the town. The official pre-bookings for the JioPhone began on August 24 via its official portals and offline through the authorized retail stores. The pre-booking continued till August 26 after which, it had to be stalled due to exceeded requests. The craze for the JioPhone was so much that Reliance Digital reportedly received over 6 million bookings for the JioPhone on the first day itself.

A specific delivery date for the JioPhone hasn’t been given but industry sources suggest September 21, which also marks the beginning of Navratri in India. Reliance Jio appears to have received more demand than expected. However, at the unveiling event of the JioPhone, Mukesh Ambani had said that the company will deliver 5 million units per week. The company’s wider plan includes selling 100 million units in its first year and a 100 million more in the following year.

Reliance Jio is yet to re-open the pre-bookings for the JioPhone, although people can still register for updates. As for the commencement of the pre-bookings, some retailers suggest next week while others expect it to be delayed till the end of September. On pre-booking the JioPhone, an amount of Rs 500 needs to be paid, after which Rs 1,000 should be paid at the time of delivery. The total amount of Rs 1,500 will be refunded after three years upon returning the JioPhone, making the device “effectively free”.

To recall, the JioPhone features a 2.4-inch QVGA display, runs KaiOS, and comes with 4GB of expandable storage. It also sports a 2-megapixel rear camera, NFC support, and is fuelled by a 2,000mAh battery. More features of the JioPhone include FM radio and SD card support, an LED flashlight, and SOS feature for emergency services. JioPhone users also get access to Jio’s suite of apps like Jio TV, Jio Music, Jio Cinema, and more. The company also promises that the device will come with popular instant messaging and social networking apps.

Reliance is readying JioPhone deliveries in the upcoming festive week

The much-awaited JioPhone, which went on sale earlier this month, might finally be reaching its customers. Reports suggest that Reliance is readying deliveries of the device around the nine-day festive period (navratri) which begins on September 20.

The delivery for Reliance JioPhone will commence in the last week of this month. If you’ve pre-booked the JioPhone you will receive an SMS alert to collect your device from your nearest Reliance Jio store.

Once the deliveries begin, customers can also check their order status on the MyJio app under the ‘Manage Booking’ tab. Once they enter their registered phone number, a delivery date for their order would be visible. They can also call on a toll-free number (1800-890-8900) from the registered mobile number to know the status of the order. Reliance Jio had received six million bookings in a day, and the excessive demand had compelled the telco to shut down orders. However, bookings could be reopened during the festive season after the first batch of phones is delivered.

Further to the six million single-day bookings, 10 million people had expressed interest in purchasing the JioPhone, sources revealed. Reliance will notify those about the next date of availability.

To buy a JioPhone, a customer has to pay Rs 1,500, which is fully refundable after a period of three years, once the JioPhone is returned to the company. The JioPhone runs on KaiOS and is pre-loaded with Jio apps. In addition, it includes 4GB of expandable internal storage, a 2-megapixel rear camera, NFC support, and a 2,000mAh battery. Those are attractive specs in what is essentially a feature phone.

Reliance, of course, hasn’t revealed the demographic that has bought the JioPhone. But analysts reckon that most customers would be from semi-rural and rural markets areas that are predominantly feature-phone markets still. Consumers here upgrade from one feature phone to the other and the smartphone revolution has nearly eluded them. As a result, a phone that offers them entertainment apps, 4G data and free voice calling, and comes cheaper than most regular feature phones, is highly attractive. That probably explains the six million single-day bookings!

Reliance JioPhone delivery date shifts again, will now arrive in October: Report

If you ordered a Reliance JioPhone when pre-bookings opened last month, then you might be disappointed to know that the company will not be able to deliver the smartphones on schedule. The delivery date for the affordable 4G-enabled feature phone was recently shifted to September 21. With a day to go, reports now claim that the company will not be able to deliver on the said date as well.

According to IndiaToday , the JioPhone will now be delivered to the ‘millions’ who pre-booked around October 1. The company would not give away any details on why the delay is taking place. But for now, you will have to wait a little longer to get your hands on JioPhone. The pre-orders of JioPhone kicked off on August 24, and Reliance Jio initially promised to start shipping JioPhone units during the first half of September. That clearly didn’t materialize, and soon after the company stopped accepting pre-orders.

The company has yet to resume pre-orders. Those who have pre-booked the JioPhone earlier via Jio website will receive text notification about when they can pick the unit from their nearest retailer. Some retailers say that the phone units are expected to be available between October 1 and October 3.

Reliance Jio claims that its received millions of JioPhone orders, and thus heavy amount of orders seems the plausible case behind the delays. Also, these phones will be delivered to customers via Jio Centers, and Reliance Jio Digital stores. As Financial Express reports, Reliance Jio will also partner with other logistics companies in order to fulfill all the orders.

The company announced the JioPhone in August during its 50th annual general meeting. The phone comes effectively free of cost and can be booked for an amount of Rs 1,500. The pre-booking amount is refundable, and a JioPhone buyer can ask for it after a period of three years from the purchase. You can book a JioPhone by initially paying only Rs 500. The rest of the amount will have to be paid when the JioPhone is delivered to you.

Reliance Jio to deliver 6 million JioPhones in 15 days

The delivery of about 6 million JioPhones will start on Sunday and be completed within 15 days, as per a channel partner of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL). Deliveries of the low-cost 4G handsets will begin from rural areas and small towns before urban centers, the partner, who did not wish to be named, told PTI.

“The Chairman (Mukesh Ambani) had said that the JioPhone will bridge the digital divide between rural and urban India. Therefore, delivery of JioPhone will start this Sunday in rural areas and small towns,” the channel partner said. Queries sent to Reliance Jio did not elicit any response.

Pre-booking of the JioPhone started on August 24 against payment of a refundable deposit of Rs 500. The remainder Rs 1,000 has to be paid by the customer when the company starts delivering the handsets. The entire amount will be refunded against the return of the phone after three years.

“The delivery of first lot of 6 million will be completed in 10-15 days,” the source said. He, however, was not aware of the dates for the next round of booking for JioPhone.According to CyberMedia Research, a total of 61.8 million mobiles were shipped in the second quarter of 2017. With 6 million units of sale, JioPhone is estimated to account for around 10 percent of India’s total mobile phone market in a quarter.

Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani had announced that voice calling for customers of JioPhone would always be free and they would get unlimited data for a month against a payment of Rs 153. JioPhone will come with pre-loaded Jio apps for messaging and entertainment. The phone can be connected with television sets for watching live TV using the Jio TV app

Reliance JioPhone deliveries begin; here’s how to track your order

A month after pre-bookings kicked off, Reliance Jio has begun the deliveries of the JioPhone. The JioPhone is priced at Rs 1,500, out of which Rs 500 has to be paid during booking, and Rs 1,000 at the time of delivery. The JioPhone comes with a refundable deposit option of returning the device after three years of usage. Those who pre-booked the JioPhone, and are awaiting its delivery, here is how one can track their order details.

You can track your JioPhone delivery status via online and offline channels. To check it online, you need to download the MyJio app on your smartphone. This app is available on both iOS and Android smartphones, but applicable only for those with a Jio number. On MyJio app, you can check your order status by selecting “Track order” and fill in the details accordingly. Alternatively, you can check it online by using the number used for pre-registration to call Jio’s customer care (18008908900). Reliance JioPhone First Impressions Review: Tears of Joy Guaranteed

The JioPhone is finally here. If the thought of a 4G VoLTE feature phone for Rs 1,500 wasn’t enough to move you then the JioPhone will surely bring tears of joy, once you unbox it. Dubbed as “India ka smartphone” by Reliance Industry Chairman Mukesh Ambani himself, the JioPhone aims to offer the best of both worlds—smartphone and feature phone—for an effective price of Rs 0. Also, for the first time, feature phone users will get access to full-fledged apps—JioMusic, JioTV, MyJio, JioCinema, JioXpressNews, HelloJio, JioVideoCall along with popular messaging apps.

After using the JioPhone for a short time, here are our initial thoughts.

What’s Cool?

The JioPhone with the entire gamut of online services for a price of Rs 1,500 is a digital hope for people who cannot afford the luxury of Internet. “India has 78 crore phones out of which 50 crores are feature phones and this is digital disempowerment and unfairness must end,” said Reliance Industry Chairman Mukesh Ambani at the Reliance AGM in July.

For those of you, who are already using an Android smartphone, the Jio Phone could mean very less. But for 50 crore feature phone users in the country, the Jio Phone is the digital hope to enjoy the Internet.

Additionally, JioPhone supports NFC payments. This means the majority of the population is ‘future-proof’ when digital payments finally take off in the country. There is Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay as well. But these are only available in expensive handsets. NFC payments in JioPhone could put to shame all budget Android smartphones.

The small JioPhone can power your TV (both old CRT and latest LED models) with the Jio Media cable. The device comes with JioTV app and you can watch live TV on the mobile and also connect a bigger screen with the Jio cable. The is yet to be launched and you will have to subscribe to plans to watch content on TV.

The Jio Phone with an effective cost of Rs zero can be purchased by paying a security deposit of Rs 1,500*. This amount is refundable after three years after the handset is returned (in working condition). Users can avail free calls, SMS, unlimited data and access to Jio apps for as little as Rs 153 per month with subscription to Jio DDD plans.

What about Jio SIM card and how to get started?

The JioPhone only supports Jio 4G VoLTE SIM cards. You cannot use any other SIM card with the device. It is a single SIM device and has a separate microSD card slot which supports up to 128GB memory cards.

The JioPhone comes bundled with a Jio SIM card. However, you will have to recharge and activate it after completing the e-KYC process from the nearest Jio Store. But if you already have a Jio SIM card then you can just insert it and start using the same number and data plan.

Will WhatsApp work on it?

Fingers crossed. The JioPhone is powered by KaiOS. So, for WhatsApp to work on it, the developers will have to create a new KaiOS-based WhatsApp version. Also, with Facebook confirming its native app for the JioPhone there is a huge possibility that WhatsApp could be introduced as well. Also, keeping WhatsApp payments in mind, it would be highly unlikely that the WhatsApp team would want to miss the JioPhone opportunity with a 50 crore subscribers.

As of now, there is no native WhatsApp app on the JioPhone and we can just hope for the best. Also, Facebook is already having an app for the JioPhone.

What about Wi-Fi hotspot?

The JioPhone can be connected to Wi-Fi networks and also supports GPS and NFC on the connectivity front. However, you cannot use the JioPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. This is obvious because there is the JioFi dongle which is now selling for a discounted price of Rs 999.

The JioPhone is a full-fledged multimedia device with access to TV, videos, music, FM Radio and Internet. Of course, you can browse and play videos on YouTube as well. You can also browse any website that you want and the front VGA camera can be used for video calls as well. The rear 2MP camera is just good enough to be used for emergency.

The device supports 22 Indian languages and comes with its now voice assistant like Google Assistant. It works only when connected to the Internet and you can speak to your JioPhone to dial contacts and send SMSes. There is a torch as well with 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio. The device doesn’t come with earphones.

As far as data plans are concerned, subscribers can opt for plans starting as low as Rs 153 per month, weekly plan for Rs 53 or 2-day plan for Rs 23.

What’s no so cool?

Given the value position of the JioPhone, there is nothing you could really complain. Having said that, if only the display quality of the JioPhone was slightly better to match the entire Jio experience. The current JioPhone offers poor viewing angles on the display front and under bright sunlight the device could be a bit difficult to use.

First impressions

It’s a no brainer. The JioPhone is absolutely amazing out-of-the-box and provides the maximum bang for the bucks spent. The JioPhone is presently being delivered in tire 3 and 2 cities and towns and it would take some time to arrive in big cities like New Delhi and Mumbai.

Reliance JioPhone second phase of booking to start post Diwali: Report

It seems Reliance Jio is all set to commence the second phase of booking for its 4G-enabled JioPhone. Reliance Retail will start taking bookings of the feature phone after Diwali.

“The second phase of JioPhone booking will start after Diwali. Likely from October-end or November first week,” a Reliance Retail channel partner told PTI. This could also mean that the feature phone will be available for booking through online and offline channels as well. Users could be able to book the JioPhone through MyJio application or through company’s official website.

Interestingly, this time Reliance JioPhone will face a tough competition with other manufacturers. Bharti Airtel has already launched its new smartphone known as A40 Indian, which is available at an effective price of Rs 1399. Vodafone and Idea Cellular are also planning to launch a series of affordable smartphones around Rs 1,500 or less.

On July 21, Reliance unveiled the JioPhone feature phone for the Indian consumers. The 4G-enabled feature phone is said to cost you Rs Zero. However, one has to pay Rs 1,500 as a security deposit, which will be 100 percent refundable after three years. The company is providing free voice calls, unlimited data and Jio apps for Rs 153 per month with Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan plans to JioPhone customers. Further, there two sachets, one with Rs 24 for two days and Rs 54 plan for a week. Users will enjoy the same benefits as the monthly recharge of Rs 153.
