Pandya rested for Sri Lanka Tests
![]() Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been rested for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, the BCCI confirmed on Friday (November 10). Even though Pandya was initially named in the 16-man squad for the first two Tests, the selection committee, after consulting the team management, opted to rest him considering his recent workload. The 24-year-old has been a regular feature in the Indian side across all formats now, having made his Test debut earlier this year in Sri Lanka. Since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League, Pandya has played 22 ODIs, three Tests and five T20Is. With India set to tour South Africa after the home series against Sri Lanka, it was decided to give Pandya a break to ensure he doesn't face any major injury concerns being the side's only genuine seam-bowling all-rounder. India squad for first two Tests: Virat Kohli ©, KL Rahul, M Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (VC), Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma Meanwhile, Punjab's Anmolpreet Singh has been chosen to replace the injured Naman Ojha in the 13-man Board President's XI squad which will take on Sri Lanka in a warm-up match ahead of the first Test. The youngster has been in terrific form since making his first-class debut this season, scoring a fifty and two centuries, including a double. In Ojha's absence, Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson will lead the side. Board President's XI squad: Sanju Samson (C, WK), Jiwanjot Singh, B Sandeep, Tanmay Agarwal, Abhishek Gupta, Rohan Prem, Akash Bhandari, Jalaj Saxena, Chama Milind, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Warrier, Ravi Kiran, Anmolpreet Singh Source:

Bhuvneshwar, Dhawan opt out due to personal reasons
![]() Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been released from the India Test squad for the Sri Lankan series following a request from the duo owing to personal reasons. Bhuvneshwar will miss the remaining two Tests against Sri Lanka while Dhawan will be available for selection for the third Test, a BCCI media release stated on Monday (November 20). Vijay Shankar, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder, has been named as the replacement for Bhuvneshwar, who is set to be married on November 23. A middle order batsman and a useful medium-pace bowler, the 26-year-old Shankar was part of the India A touring party to South Africa where he scored a crucial 72 against South Africa A to help his team clinch the tri-series. He recently came up with useful contributions with the bat in a couple of one-day games against New Zealand A. Shankar also scored a century for Tamil Nadu against Odisha in the Ranji Trophy while he picked up a four-wicket haul in the game against Mumbai. Bhuvneshwar was the Man of the Match in the drawn first Test at Eden Gardens, picking up eight wickets in the game while Dhawan scored a brisk 94 in the second innings. Ishant Sharma, who's also part of the squad, could come in as Bhuvneshwar's replacement for the second Test should India consider three front-line pacers. In Dhawan's absence, Murali Vijay is likely to be slotted in for the opener's position. India squad for the second Test: Virat Kohli ©, KL Rahul, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Vijay Shankar.
