[Image: star-india.jpg]MUMBAI: Star India is still awaiting the ministry of information and broadcasting’s (MIB) to launch Star Sports 1 Kannada, according to a source close to the development.

The broadcaster is planning to launch Star Sports 1 Kannada on 16 November in place of Channel V, which will be discontinued.

Star has given a name and logo change application to the MIB to launch Star Sports 1 Kannada.

Since the approval has still not come, the broadcaster has issued a public notice stating that Channel V will continue to be available in its current form to all viewers.

This corrigendum is issued in reference to the public notice dated October 26, 2017, to inform the viewers that “Channel V” shall continue to remain available in its current form to all viewers across all addressable platforms (DAS, DTH, IPTV, and HITS). The earlier public notice stands withdrawn,” Star India said in a notice.

“Star has applied for a name and logo change application to the MIB to launch Star Sports 1 Kannada in place of Channel V. Since the approval has not yet been granted, it had to issue a fresh notice stating Channel V will be available in its current form,” the source said, on condition of anonymity.

It’s not just Star India that is awaiting approval for name and logo change. Raghav Bahl’s Bloomberg Quint is also awaiting approval for a change in name and logo.

More than a dozen name change applications are pending with the ministry, the source added.

Quintillion Business Media, in which American media co Bloomberg holds 26% stake, has acquired a licence from Kolkata-based Horizon Satellite Services after a prolonged delay to acquire a licence directly from the ministry.

After acquiring the licence from Horizon, the company has applied for a name change of the licence to BloombergQuint. The licence is under the name Y TV.
