Sun TV Network to launch Surya Comedy on 29 April

[Image: FfLc4KJ.jpg]MUMBAI: South Indian broadcaster Sun TV Network is all set to fill the gap in its Malayalam portfolio with the launch of a comedy channel, Surya Comedy.

The channel will launch on 29 April. It will feature humour-packed shows and blockbuster comedy films. The tagline of the channel is ‘Only Comedy No Boradi’ (only comedy and no boredom).

Kerala is the only market where Sun TV Network did not have a comedy channel. The company’s comedy channels include Adithya TV (Tamil), Gemini Comedy (Telugu) and Udaya Comedy (Kannada).

The Kerala market is dominated by Star India’s Asianet. Apart from GEC, the company also runs Asianet Movies, Asianet Plus and Asianet HD.

Sun TV Network owns and operates five channels in the Kerala market including GEC Surya TV, movie channel Surya Movies, music channel Surya Music, and kids channel Kochu TV besides Surya HD, which was launched in March.

“Humour is an inherent quality among the Kerala audiences and the market boasts some of the best comic talent in the world of entertainment. The channel is ready to offer the Malayali audience variety of shows in various shades of humour,” a Sun TV Network spokesperson said.

The channel’s programming will include ‘Chiripooram’, ‘Thekku Vadakku’, ‘Jagathi vs. Jagathi’, ‘Hello Comedy’, ‘Kulukki Sarbat’, ‘Best Kanna Best’, ‘Saju Kodiyan’s Aminaatha Speaking’, and ‘Kalabhavan’.

Sun Group, India’s largest media conglomerate, has power-packed 33 television channels with the reach of more than 95 million households in India.

Sun TV Network’s channels can be viewed throughout the world including the USA, Canada, Europe, Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. It has 53 FM radio stations, two daily newspapers, five magazines and an IPL franchise.
