Update: WhatsApp beta update brings ‘unsend’ feature on web, new font shortcuts

WhatsApp has updated the beta version of its Android app with bug fixes, performance improvements and new features in tow. One of the biggest changes is the ability to revoke messages after they have been sent. It is something that has been spotted numerous times in leaks, but now the official launch seems to be coming closer.

The feature was recently spotted on WhatsApp beta for iPhone — giving you the ability to recall or ‘unsend’ messages after sending them to your contacts. The feature will also give you an option to edit messages. According to Twitter user WABetaInfo who keeps a track of changes in WhatsApp beta, users will be able to revoke messages five minutes after sending them.

The feature has made its way to WhatsApp Web, but it has been disabled by default. However, the ‘unsend’ feature now making its way to WhatsApp Web could be an early hint at the company planning to release on all platforms. WaBetaInfo further mentioned that the WhatsApp for Android beta has gained new font shortcuts for bold, italics, strikethrough and monospace.

How to use fonts shortcuts on WhatsApp for quickly formatting the text
Formatting options have existed on WhatsApp for quite some time now, but the latest update makes it easier to use them. Earlier, you were required to add asterisk (*) before and after the text to make it bold, an underscore (_) to make it italics and a tilde (~) for strikethrough. However, with the latest update, WhatsApp has made things a little bit easier.

Now, when you want to mark the text in bold, italics, strikethrough or monospace, you can quickly do it by selecting the text in compose box, and then choosing the required formatting option. By default, when you select and hold text, you will see options to cut, copy and paste.

Just next to the copy and paste options, you have three dots, tap on that and choose between bold, italics, strikethrough and monospace. The best part here is you no longer need to manually enter special characters before and after the text, thus easing your efforts.

Besides the new additions, WhatsApp recently added new Snapchat-like stories feature called ‘Status’ allowing you to set photos and videos as status messages. These status messages are self-destructing and will vanish off in 24 hours. So, you can now set a ‘text’ status, as well as self-destructing photos and videos. WhatsApp is also rumored to enable UPI integration for digital payments in the app itself.
