NEW DELHI: Railways has decided to install advanced water purifier machines at various stations across the country to provide passengers with clean water. The reverse osmosis filters will be installed by a private party which will generate revenue by wa y of advertisements.
The machines will have a dispensing capacity of 300 litres per hour. The facility will be monitored regularly and the private party is liable to attract penalty if the machine does not function, railway sources said.
“Penalties will be imposed on the party on a daily rate basis for the period the machine is not working,’’ they said.
The decision to install high-end water purifying machines comes in the backdrop of the Railway Minister, Ms Mamata Banerjee, asking all zones to spruce up passenger amenities in stations especially improving sanitation and drinking water facilities.
The sources said the machines will come up in all the small and big stations, providing water free of cost. “The number of such machines to be installed at a station will be decided by the zonal railways based on requirement.’’ — PTI
