MUMBAI: On the occasion of Women’s day, Zee Café brings you the prestigious Women’s World Awards 2009. After three successful ceremonies in Hamburg, Leipzig and New York, the city of Vienna is the host of the 4th Women’s World Awards to be held on March 5, 2009.

Since 2004, The Women’s World Awards have been a global platform aimed at recognizing the works of extraordinary, strong and successful women committed to the cause of improving the world. The fact that the awards are presented by a man who himself changed the world, Mikhail Gorbachev lends the platform a formidable stature. The awards are presented in 12 different categories to women from across the world whose achievements contribute to furthering self-determination, gender equality, freedom and the elimination of all forms of social and economic discrimination.

In recent years, the Women’s World awards have gone to the likes of Benazir Bhutto, Oprah Winfrey, fashion icon Donnatella Versace, actress Susan Sarandon, comedienne Whoopi Goldberg and supermodel Claudia Schiffer amongst others.

In an initial declaration, the World Awards Committee has announced the first set of winners of the Women's World Awards 2009. Among this year's honorees are Hollywood star Monica Bellucci (noted for her performances in The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix revolutions and The Passion of Christ), Nujood Ali, the 10-year-old girl from Yemen who successfully went to court to divorce her 30-year old husband whom she was forced to marry, Anastacia, the multi-platinum American pop artise and song writer, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Betty Williams, teen idol Kelly Clarkson who’s the current number 1 on the U.S. charts, Marilyn Carlson Nelson, Chairwoman of the Carlson Group & one of the most powerful women in the world and music icon Marianne Faithfull whose successful music career spans over 4 decades and who recently became an award-winning actress.

With some of the world’s most accomplished, remarkable women congregating at this splendid gala to celebrate womanhood, it is a must-watch for every woman this Women’s Day (8th March) at 7 PM on Zee Café!
