Zee Marathi, the flagship Marathi general entertainment channel (GEC) under Zee News Ltd (ZNL), is set to give a facelift to its primetime programming.
The channel, which is completing ten years of operations on 15 August this year, will also expand its primetime, come 27 July.
The channel is shifting its popular game reality show Home Minister to 6 pm from 6.30 pm, thus expanding its primetime by half-an-hour. Also, the 7 pm show Savitri will be shifted to 6.30 pm.
Zee Marathi is launching a new show Kunku that will be telecast from Monday to Saturday at 7 pm. The fiction is produced by Rakesh Sarang under the Cams Club banner and is directed by Pratima Kulkarni. Kunku is the story of a daughter of a poor village farmer. Suffering a draught, the farmer gives his daughter to his childhood friend, who is an MLA.
Zee Marathi Deputy VP Nikhil Sane tells Indiantelevision.com, "This year we are completing 10 years of existence. We have achieved a lot and now it is time for strengthening the pre-primetime."
The channel agrees that putting a show at 6 pm is an experiment, which it wants to continue. "Experiment is imperative. Moreover, we have to see the monetisation of our ratings. Moreover, in terms of content, we should always keep on evolving."
The channel has also launched two new comedy-genre shows Malvani Days and Constable Kamna Kamtekar at 9.30 pm on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Zee Marathi will also launch the next season of its flagship singing reality show Saregamapa in August.Avers Sane, "We are getting a good response from our recently launched properties, be it from comedy-genre shows or the reality show Hapta Bandh (Wednesday-Thursday, 9.30 pm)."
Meanwhile, the long-running and high-rated show Asambhav will soon go off-air. "Asambhav has given us perception as well as a huge response. The story is nearing an end and we have decided to pull it off air."
At present, the 8 pm show Kulvadhu remains the driver show for the channel.
