The arm of Zee News Ltd, called Zee South, which consists of Zee Kannada, Zee Telugu, Zee Tamil and Zee 24 Gantalu channels, is eyeing the overseas market to earn additional revenue from the content syndication business.
V Chandrasekaar Barathi (Chandru), business head, Zee Tamil, has been given additional responsibility for this move, as senior vice-president, syndication business, Zee South, with immediate effect.
Chandru, reports to Sanjay Reddy, who was recently elevated as chief operating officer (COO), Zee South. Chandru's mandate will be to take Zee South channels overseas for the Indian community.
Sanjay Reddy says, "In recent years, heavy investments were made in the South Indian language markets. We are seeing positive results and hope to build up on our core competencies to scale newer heights in the new markets abroad with our syndication business, as well as explore newer opportunities of growth in our chosen verticals."
Chandru said he was looking at revenue sources beyond the traditional. He says there was a huge potential for content syndication in the overseas markets for Tamil and Telugu channels, as Indian diaspora is uniformly spread globally.
Chandru would also look after synergising the Zee South channels, wherein one format which has worked in one language, could be taken to some other South Indian language.
Chandra explains that, "Certain formats of programmes could not become affordable in one single language. At that point in time, if concerned channels are convinced, we can work across languages and try and produce programmes or shows at an affordable cost, so that individual channels can bear it."
