Microsoft Edge now the second most popular web browser, says study
Posted by: nairrk - 08-04-2020, 06:29 PM - Forum: Technology & Web Services - No Replies

Microsoft Edge is the second most popular desktop browser in the world yet again. According to NetMarketShare, it has more users than Mozilla Firefox. This has earned Edge the reputation of being the second most popular desktop browser for the month of July. And like before, Google Chrome remains the most popular browser in the world with an unassailable lead. Also Read - Google is bringing Windows apps to Chromebook

This trend has become regular now, as the desktop version of Microsoft Edge had surpassed Mozilla Firefox in terms of market share for the first time in April this year. Back then, NetMarketShare noted that Mozilla Firefox had a market share of 7.19 per cent, while Microsoft Edge reported 7.59 per cent share. Also Read - Microsoft pushes new Edge browser for Windows 7 and 8 users

And now, the report says Edge has gained further with a share of 8.09 per cent. While Firefox share stands at 7.39 per cent till July 2020. Also Read - Firefox Private Relay add-on will help users generate E-mail aliases for online forms

The rise in popularity of Edge has ensured the gap has widened over Mozilla Firefox since April this year. The lead may still not be enough and Firefox could bounce back. However, it does show the confidence that consumers have started showing in Edge. Since Microsoft released a new version of Edge based on Chromium engine, the browser has been growing in popularity. In fact, the market share is so tiny that Microsoft would need to push it to the forefront to make it popular.

A lot of these users would be those who switched from Chrome to Edge. Since Edge is now Chromium-based, it gains the advantage of using the extensions available on rival platforms. While it matches Chrome’s performance, the browser also delivers improved battery life.

Microsoft Edge gets new features regularly
The company has been actively offering a new set of features for Edge. According to reports, the new Edge will be getting a new set of PDF features very soon. Microsoft has added the new highlight mode on the browser, which lets you select text or paragraph from a PDF document. Users can access the mode without selecting anything. In addition to this, it is also going to let you add text to existing PDF files, using the text note feature. This will be added alongside existing features like dark mode, forms, and others.

[Image: India-today-770x433__2_.jpeg?2vfe4ZF7GIa...ze=770:433]

Gone are the days when you had to wait to find out what transpired on the next episode of ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, Kundali Bhagya’ and many of your favourite shows. Or the time when advertisement breaks proved to be speed-breakers in your viewing experience. ZEE5 now brings to you your favourite TV, movies and original content with the launch of ZEE5 Club.

The ZEE5 Club pack comes at a cost of Rs. 365 per year. In other words, you can now watch TV serials and curated exclusive shows in Hindi and other regional languages for as little as 1 rupee per day. The Club pack offers shows before they’re broadcasted on TV with an ad-free experience, over 90 channels on live TV, access to a library of 1000+ blockbuster movies, kids content, Zindagi shows, ALTBalaji shows and foreign language content (mostly Korean and Turkish) dubbed in Hindi and other regional languages.

The benefits of the Club pack can be availed of after purchasing it on the ZEE5 website or ZEE5 app on connected devices and through partner platforms. It is noteworthy that the app will remain the same post purchase of the pack. That is, customers will be able to see all the content that is available on the platform. However, they will be able to access or watch only the content which is a part of the subscribed pack.

Shows on the platform will be marked accordingly. For instance, ZEE5 Originals will be marked and categorised as ‘Originals’ and will be available only on the pre-existing Premium pack. The shows marked ‘Exclusives’ will be available on both Premium and Club packs.

It is pertinent to note the salient differences between the Premium pack and the Club pack. The Premium pack is priced at Rs. 999 per annum or Rs. 99 per month and gives you access to ALL content on the ZEE5 platform, including ALTBalaji shows. At almost one-third the price of the Premium pack, the Club pack lets you watch all Indian TV content, selected Original content, movies and ALTBalaji shows.

The times are changing and so is the experience of watching television shows. Subscribe to ZEE5 Club pack and don’t wait till prime time to enjoy your favourite serials!

Facebook brings ‘official music videos’ to India
Posted by: nairrk - 08-01-2020, 07:54 AM - Forum: Technology & Web Services - No Replies

Facebook on Friday introduced ‘official music videos’ in India to showcase music videos from labels like T-Series Music, Zee Music Company, and Yash Raj Films on its platform. The music video experience on Facebook is available in India, Thailand, and the US. Users in India will be able to watch content from the country’s top music labels T-Series Music, Zee Music Company, and Yash Raj Films, a statement said.

“Over the past year, we have been working with partners in the Indian music industry to build the foundation of a music video experience for our consumers, and are thrilled to launch official music videos on the platform,” Facebook India Director and Head of Partnerships Manish Chopra said. He added that the company will continue to find opportunities to add more unique social sharing experiences and bring music into the ways people share and connect on Facebook.

Facebook said ‘official music videos’ will “create new social experiences that go beyond just watching the video”. “On Facebook, you will be able to discover new artists and tracks through social sharing, clicking through to a song from a Music Video shared to a friend’s story or a post in news feed,” it said.

It also added that without leaving Facebook, you can connect with and learn more about an artist and their creative ambitions, watch the story behind their music on their page, label page and connect through real-time interactions on Facebook Live.

Users can access the videos in different ways, including on Facebook Watch. They can also access and discover music videos directly on their news feed allowing friends and family to share their favourite music, or through search.

Govt put restrictions on import of colour TVs in India
Posted by: nairrk - 08-01-2020, 07:42 AM - Forum: Television News - No Replies

In a move to boost the Make in India initiative, the Government of India has imposed restrictions on importing colour TVs set in the country. The government has imposed restrictions on the import of televisions sets and has put them into the restricted list.

The government has revealed that imports of TVs in certain categories will now require a licence from the government. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) revealed this information in a notification. The DGFT further revealed that it will issue the procedure for the grant of the licence separately. The restriction is imposed on the Colour category of TVs, however, there is no restriction on monochrome TVs.

The move is said to boost the Make in India movement and it will help to boost domestic production of TVs in the country. The move will help in investment in assembly lines and component production. The move will impact the business of multiple TV manufacturers including Vu Television and TCL. The move will also impact on some high-end Smart TVs from brands like Sony, Samsung, Xiaomi, LG and more.

Many industry experts believe that the move will stop the indiscriminate import of TVs from China and other countries like Thailand and Malaysia. For the unintended, India has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the ASEAN countries including Vietnam. However, it is suspected that electronics goods from China are imported to India through the Southeast Asian country.
