d2h Magic Voice Enabled stick with built-in Alexa launched in India
Posted by: nairrk - 12-05-2019, 01:51 PM - Forum: Videocon D2H - No Replies

DTH operator d2h has silently launched the d2h Magic Voice Enabled stick in the country. Priced at Rs 1,199, the device is further sign of DTH operators looking to enter a new category of devices. As the name implies, the d2h Magic Voice Enabled comes built-in with Alexa and will compete with DishSMRT Kit. The device is the same as the d2h Magic Stick but now supports Alexa and has a voice-enabled Bluetooth remote as well. Since the remote integrates Alexa, users will now be able to control their d2h Set-top box using their voice.

d2h Magic Voice Enabled: Price and Features
As mentioned before, the d2h Magic Voice Enabled is available for Rs 1,199. It has an odd name but can bring smart functionality to your d2h Set-top box. The bundled price includes a voice-enabled remote and one WiFi and Bluetooth dongle. According to Telecom Talk, the stick comes with a monthly service charge of Rs 49 but for the first three months, there won’t be any service charge. The service charge for the device will be included in the monthly bill of your d2h connection.

The device comes preloaded with streaming services like Watcho, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Hungama Play among others. On its website, the company also mentions bringing ALT Balaji to the service very soon. There is no word on availability of Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar or Netflix just yet. In terms of features, the new voice enabled stick is identical to DishSMRT Kit with Alexa built-in. Since d2h is owned by Dish TV, it was inevitable that the company will introduce such a product.

The primary advantage of a device like d2h Magic Voice Enabled is that it can add smart applications to your set-top box. With the device, you will be able to stream content from apps like ZEE5, Watcho and SonyLIV. Since it is Alexa-enabled, you can do all of that using your voice. Users can also explore a wide array of Alexa kills for things like booking a cab. Alexa can also help with setting timer or alarms, controlling smart home devices. It can also offer updates on weather, news and traffic situation.

Airtel Prepaid Packs Undergo Big Changes: Everything You Need to Know
Posted by: nairrk - 12-03-2019, 12:25 PM - Forum: Cellular Services - No Replies

Bharti Airtel has announced new prepaid recharge options for its users in India, in line with the confirmation earlier that the company would be increasing tariffs in December. The new Airtel recharge packs are replacing similarly priced recharge options that were available till now. This comes after Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has announced the new prepaid tariff plans which become applicable from December 3, and there are significant changes for prepaid mobile users to wrap their calculations around. Reliance Jio have confirmed that they will be announcing all new all-in-one mobile tariff plans that will be effective from December 6, with unlimited voice calls and bundled data as well as additional benefits for users.

Airtel’s new recharge options are priced upwards of Rs 19 and go all the way up to Rs 2398, depending on the validity period and the benefits that you are looking for.

The unlimited usage packs are priced upwards of Rs 148 now—it was Rs 129 earlier. This neatly takes us to the matter of the new Rs 148 pack, which has a validity of 28 days and bundles unlimited calling, 2GB data for the total validity period and 300 SMS. This replaces the Rs 129 pack which offered the same benefits, but did not have the Airtel Xstream, Wynk Music and Hello Tunes benefits which are now available.

Next up is the Rs 248 recharge option. This has a 28-day validity period with unlimited calling, 1.5GB data per day and 100 SMS per day. Airtel is bundling the Airtel Thanks benefits of Airtel Xstream Premium streaming service, subscription for Wynk Music, free Hello Tunes and anti-virus mobile protection suite subscription. This new Rs 248 recharge is replacing two recharge packs in effect—the Rs 169 pack (1GB data per day) and the Rs 199 pack (1.5GB data per day).

Airtel New Prepaid Plans

Airtel says the Xstream Premium subscription gives users access to more than 10,000 movies as well as the ability to stream Live TV and news. In fact, the Airtel Thanks benefits that also include subscription for Wynk Music, free Hello Tunes and anti-virus mobile protection suite subscription are available for all unlimited calling packages priced upwards of Rs 248.

The new Rs 298 recharge pack replaces the older Rs 249 recharge option, while retaining the same configuration of unlimited voice calls, 2GB data per day and 100 SMS per day, with the 28-day validity.

Airtel has added the new Rs 598 plan which replaces the Rs 448 plan. The new plan also offers unlimited calling, 1.5GB data per day and 100 SMS per day, with the validity now at 84-days instead of 82-days earlier.

The other 82-day validity pack that has been upgraded to 84-day validity is the older Rs 499 plan which now costs Rs 698 instead. This includes 2GB data per day, unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day.

There are two annual recharge options that are also available as part of the new Airtel prepaid recharge options.

The Rs 1496 plan is a reconfigured Rs 998 plan, which now has a 365-days validity instead of 336-days earlier. The new data limit of 24GB is also double the 12GB limit earlier and the unlimited calling as well as 3600 SMS specs remain the same.

The higher spec Rs 2398 plan was the one that was earlier priced at Rs 1,699 and retains the same bundle of 1.5GB data per day, unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day.

There are smaller denomination recharge options too. The existing Rs 19 recharge option retains the same price, the validity period of 2 days and includes unlimited calls, 150MB data and 100 SMS. The erstwhile Rs 35 pack will now cost Rs 49 and this will now have 28 days validity—Rs 38.82 will be credited as talk-time as compared with Rs 26.66 earlier along with 100MB data. Airtel says this is a 50 paisa per day increase in price. The price of the Rs 65 pack has been increased to Rs 79 though the 28-day validity remains the same. Incidentally, lesser talk-time of Rs 63.95 is being credited to the Airtel prepaid user’s account, compared with Rs 130 earlier.

Airtel is packaging the new tariffs as a miniscule increase in the daily expenditure for customers, depending on the validity of the recharge pack they choose and also pushing the Airtel Thanks benefits that are now bundled with most, if not all, of these recharge packs. “Airtel’s new plans, represent tariff increases in the range of a mere 50 paise/day to Rs. 2.85/day and offer generous data and calling benefits. In addition, Airtel provides exclusive benefits as part of the Airtel Thanks platform, which enables access to premium content from Airtel Xstream (10,000 movies, exclusive shows, and 400 TV channels), Wynk Music, device protection, anti-virus protection and much more,” says the company in an official statement. For all the Airtel prepaid packs that are being launched now, the FUP for off-net calls will be applicable. There will be an FUP of 1000 minutes of free off-net usage bundled with all 28 day packs, while there will be 3000 minutes FUP with all 84 day packs. The long term packs that have a 365-days validity get 12000 minutes of FUP for calls made outside the Airtel network.

In the new tariff plans for prepaid users, Vodafone Idea will now charge for calls made outside the Vodafone Idea network, to the tune of Rs 0.06 per minute, once the bundled calls with your recharge packs are exhausted. This is known as the Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC), and this is a big shift from the company’s original stance that all calls will remain free for its users which they had made clear in October when Reliance Jio announced that it will charge for calls made outside the Jio network, once the bundled free call minutes are exhausted.

Vodafone Idea Prepaid Tariffs Set to Become More Expensive: Here Are The Details
Posted by: nairrk - 12-03-2019, 12:18 PM - Forum: Cellular Services - No Replies

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has announced the new prepaid tariff plans which become applicable from December 3, and there are significant changes for prepaid mobile users to wrap their calculations around. The biggest, and perhaps the most important change, is that Vodafone Idea will now charge for calls made outside the Vodafone Idea network, to the tune of Rs 0.06 per minute, once the bundled calls with your recharge packs are exhausted. This is known as the Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC), and this is a big shift from the company’s original stance that all calls will remain free for its users which they had made clear in October when Reliance Jio announced that it will charge for calls made outside the Jio network, once the bundled free calls run out. There are in total 16 new prepaid packs, with different validity and benefits. Vodafone Idea are categorizing the new packs as those that can be called unlimited packs with validity of 28 days, 84 days or 365 days, as well as combo vouchers, unlimited sachet and the first recharge options. Airtel have also announced a similar increase in tariffs and recharge options for prepaid users. Reliance Jio have confirmed that they will be announcing all new all-in-one mobile tariff plans that will be effective from December 6, with unlimited voice calls and bundled data as well as additional benefits for users.

Unlimited packs with 28 days validity

For starters, there are new unlimited packs with 28 days validity. The first is priced at Rs 149 and bundled 2GB data, 300 SMS, unlimited calls within the Vodafone Idea network and a fair usage policy (FUP) of 1000 minutes for off-net calls—such as calls made to Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and BSNL networks, for instance. The next is the Rs 249 plan which bundles 1.5GB data per day, 100 SMS per day and an off-net voice call FUP of 1000 minutes. The new Rs 299 plan retains similar specs, except that you get a higher daily data limit of 2GB. The highest spec plan in this cluster is the Rs 399 plan which offers 3GB data per day, with the rest of the inclusions remaining the same.

These new 28-day validity packs replace multiple recharge options that were available to Vodafone Idea users till now. The Rs 129 pack offered unlimited calling on local, STD and roaming to all networks across India as well as 2GB data and 100 SMS—this means the new pack offers lesser number of voice calls to other networks and also a smaller free SMS limit. The next step up was the Rs 199 plan that bundled 1.5GB data per day, unlimited calling on local, STD and roaming to all networks across India and 100 SMS per day—this is being replaced by the Rs 249 plan. There is also the Rs 255 recharge option that bundles 2.5GB data per day, but we can perhaps infer that the new Rs 299 plan with 2GB of data replaces it.

Unlimited packs with 84 days validity

Vodafone Idea also has unlimited packs with 84 days validity as well as 3000 minutes of off-net call FUP. The Rs 379 pack bundles 6GB data in total and 1000 SMS. The Rs 599 plan offers 1.5GB data per day and 100 SMS per day while the Rs 699 plan offers 2GB data per day and 100 SMS per day.

At present, Vodafone Idea has the Rs 458 pack that has 84 days validity and offers unlimited calling on local, STD and roaming to all networks across India as well as 1.5GB of data and 100 SMS per day. There is also the Rs 569 recharge plan at the moment which offers 3GB data per day, 100 SMS per day and unlimited calling on local, STD and roaming to all networks across India. We need to also note that Vodafone Idea also offered a Rs 509 pack with 90 days validity that bundled 1.5GB data per day, unlimited calling on local, STD and roaming to all networks across India and 100 SMS per day.

Unlimited packs with 365 days validity

If you wish to do a long-term recharge, there are annual plans as well, with 365 days validity. The Rs 1,499 plan offers 12000 minutes of FUP for calls made to other networks such as Reliance Jio and Airtel, as well as 24GB data and 3600 SMS. The Rs 2,399 plan offers a similar FUP limit, along with 1.5GB data per day and 100 SMS per day.

The new plans will replace the two prepaid plans that Vodafone Idea offers with 365 days validity at the moment. The first is priced at Rs 999 and it includes 12GB of data, 3600 SMS and unlimited calling on local, STD and roaming to all networks across India. The higher spec plan till now was priced at Rs 1,699 and it includes unlimited calling on local, STD and roaming to all networks across India, as well as 1.5GB data per day and 100 SMS per day.

Combo vouchers

There are combo vouchers as well, priced at Rs 49 which bundles Rs 38 talk-time and 100MB data with calls priced at 2.5 paisa per second and 28-days validity. The Rs 79 pack bundles Rs 64 talk-time and 200 MB data, with calls chargeable at 1 paisa per second and a validity of 28 days.

Unlimited sachet options

Vodafone Idea has one sachet pack, priced at Rs 19 with unlimited calls within the Vodafone Idea network, 150MB of data, 100 SMS and 2 days validity. For this pack, it remains unclear what happens to calls outside the VIL network.

First recharge options

If you are buying a new Vodafone Idea prepaid connection, you’ll have to do what is known as a first recharge (commonly known as FRC). There are four options to choose from now. The Rs 97 option is valid for 28 days and includes Rs 45 talk-time as well as 100MB data and 1 paisa per second call tariff. The Rs 197 option has a validity of 28 days and includes 1000 minutes of FUP for calls made to Reliance Jio, Airtel etc. networks, unlimited calls within the network along with 2GB data and 300 SMS. The Rs 297 option includes the same FUP for off-net calls, unlimited calls within the network and 1.5GB data per day, with the 28 days validity. The Rs 647 plan has a longer validity of 84 days along with 3000 minutes FUP for off-net calls, unlimited calls within the network and 1.5GB data per day.
