  Latest ATI Linux Driver Introduces Support for Ubuntu 9.04
Posted by: Sathish - 04-19-2009, 10:11 AM - Forum: Technology & Web Services - No Replies

Yet another stable version of the ATI/AMD Linux display driver was released last night, for both x86 and x86_64 architectures. With version 9.4, ATI Catalyst introduces early support for the upcoming Ubuntu 9.04 operating system and full support for the recently released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3. Users of the Release Candidate of Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) can install and test this new ATI driver via the "Hardware Drivers" utility in the System -> Administration menu. Without further introduction, we invite you to take a look at the resolved issues of the new ATI Catalyst 9.4 video driver from AMD:

· Fixed a segmentation fault issue when X was stopped in dual-head mode;
· Fixed indirect rendering in Novel's SUSE Enterprise 10.1;
· When 3D programs are running, errors will no longer be reported in dmesg;
· Fixed video playback issues, that caused the system to freeze, when resuming from S3/S4;
· Repaired the default button for Warning Dialogue in the preferences of the Catalyst Control Center;
· Improved gamma values in the Catalyst Control Center;
· The HDTV Support page of the Catalyst Control Center correctly displays the formats now.

Requirements:

· X.Org 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 or 7.4
· Linux kernel 2.6 or higher
· glibc version 2.2 or 2.3
· Support for POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) is necessary for 3D programs
· The following packages should be installed on your system: XFree86-Mesa-libGL, libstdc++, libgcc, XFree86-libs, fontconfig, freetype and zlib.

Supported operating systems:

· Red Hat Enterprise Linux
· Novell SUSE Enterprise Linux
· Ubuntu Linux

Detailed installation instructions for the ATI Catalyst installer can be found in this PDF file.

  Big TV announces drops prices in special summer offer
Posted by: Sathish - 04-19-2009, 08:50 AM - Forum: Independent TV (Reliance Digital TV) - No Replies

MUMBAI: Big TV, the DTH service provider from Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), has set out its summer plans for its subscribers.

Available at Rs 1490 and Rs 1790, Big TV has announced this as the power-packed entertainment package for this summer.

The Rs 1490 package is a basic promotional offer that enables Big TV customers to buy channels ranging from Rs 98 to Rs 465 a month.

The Rs 1790 package, on the other hand, comes with free subscription along with a regional pack that is free for the first three months. Customers subscribed for the Rs 1790 pack can purchase add-on packs to view other channels after three months.

"We have added three NDTV channels for the Rs 1790 offer. This goes to show that at all times, Big TV stands for the benefit of its customers," said Reliance communication president Mahesh Prasad.

As part of their promotional offer, Big TV has uprooted their subscription pack of Rs 2490 by giving four months free subscription and one month free subscription video-on- demand (SVOD).

BIG TV's promotional packages come with the MPEG4 technology, 200+ channels, 32 cinema channels, sales and after-sales network.

  Miss Bollywood SA contest at IPL 2
Posted by: Sathish - 04-18-2009, 02:37 PM - Forum: Sports Zone - No Replies

The IPL has become one of the most awaited sporting tournaments in India and the world at large, quite akin to the gladiator matches in ancient Rome. Adding to this already heady mixture of sport and entertainment is a unique contest, which the IPL Chairman Lalit Modi along with the franchise owners Shahrukh Khan, preity zinta and Shilpa Shetty announced. The DLF-IPL 2 will have an initiative attached to it and that is lining up a mini-beauty Pageant, named Miss Bollywood SA.

At all the 56 league games, one girl from the crowd will be named a winner at each of the games. One finalist from each venue will be chosen, leaving eight winners in the final round to be held on May 24 during the final. This final lucky winner could earn a role in a Hindi film, Rand 50,000 and also the title of Miss Bollywood SA. The winner will be chosen by a special panel.

Winners will be shown on the big screen at every match during the second five-minute strategy break. Fans too can vote for each match winner on the official website of IPL.
