MGM, Weigel launch Me-TV - raja1991 - 01-05-2011

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Weigel Broadcasting have announced the national launch of Memorable Entertainment Television (Me-TV).

The network’s national distribution will be handled by MGM's domestic television sales force.
Weigel Broadcasting executive VP Neal Sabin, who is directly responsible for Me-TV, said: "Me-TV was created to present a wide variety of the iconic series, stars and genres that have defined pop culture and television for decades. Our goal is to present these series with creativity, reverence, and respect for the programs, our viewers and advertisers.”

MGM and Weigel have also worked together on the successful launch of THIStv, the national broadcast movie service. With the launch of Me-TV, MGM and Weigel aim to establish a leadership position in providing quality programming to the broadcast digital spectrum.

Said MGM Worldwide Television co-president Jim Packer, "I believe Me-TV will be a perfect complement to THIStv. With this network launch, we are proud to become the clear leader in the digital broadcast space.

Me-TV offers classic television sitcoms, dramas and classic commercials, targeted for digital broadcast stations. A local version of Me-TV has been successfully airing on Weigel Broadcasting's WWME in Chicago.

Averred Weigel Broadcasting president Norman H. Shapiro, "Me-TV is a terrific companion service to THIStv. In our markets, we have success airing and selling both Me-TV and THIStv as part of a cluster of viewer and advertiser options. And we are proud to be able to provide nationally, on a single channel, some of the best programming ever produced, free for everyone on over-the-air broadcast television."

WWME and WBME, the Weigel station covering the Milwaukee/Racine metro area, have become the first affiliates of Me-TV offering programmes such as "Cheers," "M*A*S*H," "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Bob Newhart Show."

Said MGM Domestic Television executive vice president John Bryan, “Me-TV is a proven concept and has worked for years in Chicago as a ratings hit and an advertising success. We have seen THIStv become a great revenue stream for our affiliates, and we know that Me-TV will do the same. For years, the only growth a station could show was on its existing inventory. In the new age, they can now add channels that local viewers and advertisers seek out."

As Me-TV goes national, the highlights of the network also include "Laverne & Shirley," "Happy Days," and "Bosom Buddies," which stars a young Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari, as well as the original 'Star Trek" series. The new network is preparing for a variety of promotional stunts as well.
