GTPL issues notice to put Zee, Turner channels on a la carte from 18 Aug - nairrk - 08-07-2017

MUMBAI: Multi-system operator (MSO) GTPL Hathway has issued a notice informing its customers that all ZEEL, Zee Media Corporation and Turner International India channels will not be available as part of its package.

The two sides have failed to reach an agreement on renewing the existing distribution deal.

Subscribers have to subscribe to channels from these three broadcasters on a a la carte basis with effect from 18 August.

ZEEL owns and operates 25 SD and nine HD channels while Zee Media has 12 channels. Turner has a bouquet of seven channels including one HD channel.

GTPL, which is a dominant MSO in Gujarat, has an active subscriber base of 5.98 million across India, as on 31 March 2017.

For GTPL Hathway, pay channel cost, which is the biggest expenditure, increased 17% to Rs 382.1 crore in FY17 from Rs 327.7 crore a year ago. Placement revenue dipped by 11% to Rs 237.5 crore from Rs 266.8 crore.

Recently, direct-to-home (DTH) operator Sun Direct had issued a public notice stating that Star India channels would be available on reference interconnection offer (RIO) from 1 August.
