Injured Tendulkar misses NZ clash - Sathish - 03-10-2009

India will be without Sachin Tendulkar for the fourth one-day international against New Zealand in Hamilton.

The 35-year-old smashed a brilliant 163 to inspire the tourists to a 58-run win in Christchurch on Sunday, but bruised his abdomen in the process.

Batsman Rohit Sharma is expected to take Tendulkar's place, while Daniel Vettori returns for New Zealand after attending the birth of his first child.

India lead the five-match series 2-0 with the final match on Saturday.

Although Tendulkar is a doubt for the fifth one-dayer in Auckland, India's management confirmed he will be fit for the three-Test series, which begins on 17 March.

But his absence in Hamilton means Gautam Gambhir is set to open the innings, with Sharma slotting into India's middle order.

New Zealand, meanwhile, are delighted top have captain Vettori back after their bowling attack was smashed to all parts of the ground in the third match.

The Indian batsmen were particularly harsh on seamer Tim Southee, who conceded 0-105 from 10 overs, and the 20-year-old has been dropped from the 12-man squad.

Fast bowler Ian Butler does not feature after suffering a thigh injury, so uncapped all-rounder Ewen Thompson has been called up.

New Zealand vice-captain Brendon McCullum admitted his side will need to attack at Seddon Park.

"We know now the only option for us is to win," said McCullum. "We've got to do something pretty special to turn it around."
