BlackBerry Key2 with dual cameras, QWERTY keyboard launched - nairrk - 06-08-2018

As expected, BlackBerry took the wraps off its latest smartphone at an event in New York. Like its predecessor, the KEYone, the new Key2 also comes with a QWERTY keyboard under the display. But there’s more to the new smartphone than just that keyboard. Read on to find out.

BlackBerry has largely stuck to the design language that we saw on the last year’s KEYone. But the new smartphone has shed the extra weight, and with a square-ish appearance looks classier. The smartphone is also built using series-7 aluminum, which makes it lighter than its predecessor.

Like the KEYone, the Key2 also comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard placed below the display. The company says that there was a lot of focus on the typing experience on this keyboard. Not only are the keys 20 percent larger than the ones found on the Keyone, but BlackBerry also paid close attention to the “clickiness” of the keys with inspiration taken from the BlackBerry Bold 9900. The keyboard also has a fingerprint sensor built into the spacebar, supports a few gestures, and also comes with a customizable shortcut key.

BlackBerry Key2 specifications, features
The BlackBerry Key2 flaunts a 4.5-inch (1620×1080 pixels) display with 3:2 aspect ratio. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. There is also a 3,500mAh battery with support for QuickCharge 3.0 technology. Additionally, there’s a battery feature that monitors how you use the device, and recommends when you should plug it in.

For photography, there’s a dual-camera setup at the back that includes a pair of 12-megapixel sensors. The dual cameras offer portrait mode, as well as 2x lossless zoom. Up front for selfies, there’s an 8-megapixel snapper. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. There’s also BlackBerry’s usual suite of apps like Hub, Priority Edge, DTEK security app and Calendar.
