Mubu TV to relaunch as a Hindi GEC on 31 July - nairrk - 07-31-2018

MUMBAI: Mubu Entertainment Television is all set to relaunch its kids-centric channel Mubu TV as a Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC). The channel will debut in its new avatar from 31 July.

Mubu TV started as a free to air (FTA) kids channel in 2017. However, the promoters namely Manish Srivastava, Narshi Vasani, and Naim Warsi soon realised that there is not much scope in the genre for an independent player.

Following the failure of the kids channel, the company decided to take the plunge into the more competitive world of Hindi GEC. The FTA channel will have the tagline ‘Har Bharatiya Ka Sapna’ (Dream of Every Indian).

According to Mubu Entertainment Television director Manish Srivastava, the channel is targeted at millennials. It will have two fiction ‘Return of School Days’ and ‘Ajab Saas Ki Gajab Bahu’ and one non-fiction show ‘Buland Iraade’ (High Intentions).

The fiction shows (30 minutes) will air from Monday to Friday while the non-fiction show (1 hour) will air during the weekend. The channel plans to take its prime-time programming duration to four hours.

Srivastava stated that Vasani’s Nootan Group is investing in the channel. He, however, refused to disclose the investment being made into the venture.

Mubu TV will be available on Airtel Digital, Tata Sky, and Videocon d2h. The channel also plans to launch on DD Free Dish after three months. It also has carriage deals with leading multi system operators (MSOs).

“Mubu TV launched in 2017 as a kids channel. However, we felt that there is not much scope in kids, therefore, we are re-launching it as a Hindi GEC. We are confident that our content will resonate with the youth audience,” said Srivastava, who has been in the media industry for 17 years.

The show ‘Return of School Days’ revolves around students who return to school leaving their bright careers to fulfill their commitment to their friendship. The show features Komal Kundra, Amit Das, Apeksha Deshmukh, Vishmitha Dsouza, Manjari Mishra and Mayank Shekhar in the lead roles. The show is written and directed by Manish Srivastava.

Whereas, Ajab Saas Ki Gajab Bahu will be a light-hearted comedy, featuring a combination of Punjabi ‘Saas’ and South Indian ‘Bahu’. The show will star Himani Shivpuri, Ankita Khare and Vishal Nayak in the vital roles.

The channel will be launched on 31 July in the presence of Bollywood celebrities, business tycoons, politicians, and officials. Comedian Krushna Abhishek, Singer Sugandha Mishra, and Sudesh Lahiri will be hosting the launch of Mubu TV.
