YuppTV launches Android-based hybrid STB for MSOs - nairrk - 12-04-2018

MUMBAI: Over the top (OTT) platform YuppTV has launched its Android-based hybrid set top box (STB) for multi system operators (MSOs) that supports OTT as well as traditional DVB-C and IPTV. The OTT platform has partnered with Mumbai-based MSO 7Star for rolling out the hybrid STB.

Commenting on the latest development, YuppTV founder and CEO Uday Reddy said, “The way we consume content and media has evolved in the past few years. To the same end, Cable TV Broadcasters have been on the receiving end of the onslaught by the digital media offerings. Users are more inclined towards OTT platforms, as they no longer have to follow a rigid timeline of telecasts and experience entertainment at their own ease and convenience.

“With the launch of our end-to-end OTT solution and Android-based Hybrid Set Top Box, we intend to bring the cable operators back in the mix and enable them to offer more enhanced and digital services, without significant overheads. It is equally exciting for us to partner with 7Star and makes our solution available with one amongst India’s largest MSO network. As the cable operators prepare for the wave of digitalisation spreading across the nation, we are hopeful that our offering will play a key role in making them present- and future-ready.”

7Star director Mahadesh Devendra added, “YuppTV as an established name in the fraternity has come up with a very relevant and power-packed solution. We are happy to associate with the team and allow our users to switch to OTT viewing, at their own ease and convenience.”

Echoing a similar thought, 7Star director Raja Devendran added, “At present, cable TV operators are facing stiff competition from the burgeoning OTT platforms. Lower internet data rates and a shift to premium OTT apps by millennials are driving the need to provide a solution that can deliver both, the traditional TV channels via DTH or satellite and video content and personal multimedia features through the internet. To the same end, it became necessary for us to upgrade our existing cable TV network with android hybrid boxes. We are glad to have found the right technology partners in YuppTV and are affirmative our network of users would appreciate the latest upgrade in the service offering.”

YuppTV’s end-end OTT Solution has been developed taking this market need into consideration and is aimed at enhancing the HD offerings of MSOs with IPTV experience. YuppTV OTT solution is also set to offer Customisable Application Development services and local post-sales support.
