Amazon to launch Prime Video Channels in India - nairrk - 01-23-2019

MUMBAI: E-commerce giant Amazon is launching its Prime Video Channels service in the Indian market. The service offers paid monthly subscriptions to third-party premium networks and other streaming entertainment channels.

The company is also in the process of hiring an India head for the service. The position will be based out of the Mumbai office.

Currently, Amazon has two streaming services in India namely Prime Video and Prime Music. While Prime Video was launched in December 2016, Prime Music was rolled out in February 2018. Both the services are part of Amazon Prime, which is available at an annual subscription of Rs 999.

The Prime Video Channels head will be responsible for the business strategy, operating plan as well as business operations including Partner Deals, Consumer Marketing and related functions. Additionally, the head will also be responsible for the go-to-market plan and growing the customer base for Prime Video channels in India.

The e-commerce major is looking at experienced candidates from streaming, broadcast distribution, and multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) distribution backgrounds.

Prime Video Channels enables customers to add a wide range of live TV channels and on-demand streaming services to their Prime Video catalogue.

The service launched in the US in 2015, Germany and the UK in 2017 and Japan in 2018 and is now one of the largest online marketplaces for video subscriptions. Some of the channels that are part of Prime Video Channels include HBO, Showtime, Eurosport and Starz.

Prime Video Channels are available as individual subscriptions with no need to buy a big channel bundle and anytime cancellation. All Prime Video Channels are available via the existing Prime Video app.
